so, i got my wisdom teeth removed last tuesday, and my lower left tooth is still throbbing and just realized that is bleeding some as well. the other teeth stopped hurting on friday. i am really busy with work and just wanted to see if there was a way to treat it without having to go to the dentist.
dont worry, im still calling my dentist first thing in the morning, but just wanted to get advice from anyone who has had it or other complications after wisdom teeth removal.
thanks! 5/24/2006 7:25:15 PM |

i had one infected after i got mine taken out, but it didn't bleed, it was white stuff in it. i think i just got simple antibiotics for it and it went away in a day or two 5/24/2006 7:27:12 PM |

yeah the bleeding is what confused me. because i have all the other symptoms of dry socket, like the tooth smells bad and stuff (gross i know), but bleeding shouldn't be one of them. 5/24/2006 7:28:37 PM |

The tooth smells bad, or the socket?
If the socket has a rancid smell, I'd get that checked out right away...that'd be a pretty strong indicator of infection. 5/24/2006 7:29:51 PM |

ive been going to him since i was in middle school, but he's always creeped me out a little. and to go to a new dentist can be pricey. he didnt give me pain meds or sedate me because they were already grown in, he just pulled them out. but it's not like they don't hurt afterwards still! 5/24/2006 9:37:52 PM |

mine kept hurting for quite a few days but I didn't get a dry socket. I think you'll know if that shit happens, cause a slug will come out of that socket followed by extended supposedly intense pain. 5/24/2006 9:45:27 PM |

how is going to a new dentist pricey? you just tell your dentist to send your records over there
anyway, i had a dry socket when i got my wisdom teeth taken out. i didnt know you're not supposed to use straws while you're healing so thats how i got mine
basically they gave me a water syringe and after i ate i had to go to the bathroom and use the syringe to clean the food out of where my wisdom teeth were
it was pretty gross but after awhile it healed up just fine 5/24/2006 10:08:09 PM |

the first visit at most dentist is more money. my sister switched this year and called a few different places and they all charged extra for whatever reason if you were a new patient. anyways, thanks for all the stories. oh, and i did not notice any 'slug' coming out of my socket. 5/24/2006 11:00:46 PM |

i had somewhat of the same problem for the first week
I had all 4 of mine out at the same time also and my top left one hurt pretty bad for a week
i just kept on rinsing my mouth with the stuff he gave me and it slowly went away. they told me some would hurt worse than others 5/25/2006 1:15:20 AM |

your dentist sounds like a sadist (but it may be true that all dentists are). i had four regular teeth pulled when i was about thirteen, and i got prescription pain killers for that.5/25/2006 9:49:28 AM |

You need to call him. They have special dressings for it and there is no reason for him not to give you pain meds. Ask for them. Mine gave me several refills. 5/25/2006 2:13:36 PM |

i just got back from my dentist and it was dry socket. he packed it with the clove medicine you guys are talking about and it feels sooo much better already. it was worth the trip back to chapel hill.

my husband had a tooth pulled out a month ago - I had never seen one so large in my life, infact the dentist was appalled by the size of it, and she told him to take tylenol for 2 hours and he would be fine, she won't prescribe any pain meds to her patients *shes afraid of losing her license*
his socket hurt for 3 weeks, and he just dealt with it 5/25/2006 6:36:09 PM |

y'all are pussies. I've had oral surgery and not once did I get main medication
and as a kid when I had cavities they wouldn't even give me novicaine.

ive never taken any prescription pain meds in my life, but i felt like i needed them this past week. i think it's weird that any doctor or dentist would be against pain meds. im in nursing school and we are taught that if a patient is in pain and requests pain meds, they should get it (as long as there is an order from the doctor and its not overdosing). 5/25/2006 9:10:00 PM |

it pays to go to doctors that have great reputations and know what they are doing. 5/30/2006 7:17:48 PM |

i recently moved & went to a new doctor. she told me she doesn't prescribe birth control (i wasnt there to get it but its on my records that i take it)
i was like WTFZERZ
she said she's "all about" absentance & that if i 'really' wanted it the nurse could write me a perscription
it reminded me of when i went to student health bc my belly button ring thing was infected and they wanted me to take it out when all i needed was an antibiotic
