over the past couple weeks theres been quite a few threads in Ent/CC about those investigative reports on sex offenders. recently rwoody posted one about a guy masterbating in the public library.

1) do we really think this acts as any sort of a deterent?

2) does this not have lots of unintentional consequences?

3) do you think reporters actually give a shit or are they just being confrontational for ratings?

4) doesnt this also seem inherently dangerous?

i mean, the more i see them, the more disgusted i am with the news shows. they're just as fucking bad. arrest the fuckers and get on with your lives, no need to lecture them (just preaching to the choir since most arent going to disagree that it is wrong and the predator isnt going to argue with you).

i liked bowling. he's gotten progressively more whiney/annoying i think cuz roger and me wasnt bad either. same thing with books, stupid white men was fine but dude... was preachy. feel free to flame, but it seemed like a good pickup after watching roger and me in class.

diff thread either way.

there is a difference between trying to scare people about KILLER BEES FROM GUATEMALA or wherever

and

trying to educate people on how sites like myspace are a breeding ground for predators

theres a difference between educating people about myspace's potential dangers

and

being overly alarmist and making every board, networking site, and chatroom out to be teh debil

Michael Crichton's last novel, State of Fear, focuses on the notion of fear used for the control/manipulation of the general public

if someone like that reporter guy was that crass with me, I would knock out his teeth on camera.

seriously though, if you are about to be arrested for a sex crime, it probably cant hurt to assault a guy.
