i just went over the intererior of my sub box with a layer of resin. that was about 2 hrs ago the resin is still wet i'm thinking i didn't put enough hardener in. is there anyway to make it dry faster?? 5/25/2006 6:40:36 PM |

blow dryer or heat lamp. You can add another layer that is overly mixed with hardener in an attempt to have it cure the lower layer as well (hot batch it). 5/25/2006 7:04:05 PM |

the only way you can use too much hardener is if it turns solid while your mixing it 5/25/2006 9:39:54 PM |

i just redid my box a couple weeks ago with aeroports. good for a 143 on the termlab which ain't bad but i want more. i rushed putting it together and NONE of the edges are straight and since the aeroports are flared it was tough as hell to cut a hole and have them seal properly.since i've been metered i'm rounded out the corners and duct taped around the edges of the aero ports which sounds noticebly louder and deeper. today i glassed the inside of the box. the and last next step will be to add the threaded rod for braceing. between all this i hope to gain between 1 and 2 dbs. 5/25/2006 11:26:03 PM |

if you add too much hardener it will give you a substandard resin quality thats either really brittle or wont ever cure all the way. 5/26/2006 9:08:25 AM |

the slower the resin cures, the greater it's integrity 5/26/2006 8:00:59 PM |

Bingo...fewer, longer polymer strands means tougher, more resilient polyester. More hardener initiates more sites of linking of the monomer, which means more total polymer strands of shorter length. Means brittle.
Could also mean a fire if enough is used to "kick" the resin too fast. The reaction is extremely exothermic.
This, of course, does NOT apply to epoxy resins, which MUST be mixed in the correct ratio to cure at all. 5/26/2006 10:38:32 PM |

if your just lining the inside of the box for a seal and not for a strong support.... they make a thicking agent that you use I think a 1:4 ratio resin to thickener.... this allows you to almost paint the stuff on or in some cases just pour a gallon mixed into the box and roll the box around and it will seal right up....just some tricks I have learned/been taught 5/27/2006 12:12:34 AM |

Christ what a moumental effort for a 1-2 db. Are you in a range where you can win competitions or is this for pure penis stroking? 5/28/2006 7:38:06 AM |

yeah i've been in the range to win competitions but i need more trophies... those are for penis stroking. the bigest challenge though is maintaing sound quality. i could just tune my shit to 50hz or so and gain a few dbs but i love my 30hz tuning so i'm trying to squeeze all i can out of it. 5/28/2006 1:59:50 PM |

Wait, you have a system that wins competitions in the dB arena and you are talking about sound quality? I bet your stuff sounds shitty to the average audiophile. 5/28/2006 3:36:00 PM |

there's plenty of setups that win competitions and still maintain sound quality. that's exactly what i love about my setup. i'm sure there's some1 out there who thinks it sounds like shit, but thats with any system. i've heard plenty of setups and i think mine is extremly musical and i've never had anyone say it sounded like shit. u're welcome to come have a listen if u want. 5/28/2006 5:24:26 PM |

One man's shit is another mans treasure. I have heard of plenty of these so called "musical" setups that will do high dBs, and have yet to hear one of them that I thought sounded "correct" (within a range), especially in the car audio world. It's like trying to take a square peg and make it fit in a round hole. 5/28/2006 5:29:27 PM |
