I can work Solidworks every which way and am wondering what sort of modeling software you use to model things like...guns/vehicles in video games..mainly, Battlefield 2, I thought id try my hand at it and see if i have any talent.

Primary: Maya, 3DSMax

Others: Rhino, Lightwave (a popular program for TV operations with limited budgets), lots of others

there's a free version of 3dsmax thats meant for game developers. I can't remember the name off the top of my head, but but its like ymax or gmax

edit: its gmax, discreet canned it (probably when autodesk bought them) http://www.turbosquid.com/gmax

i used milkshape for a project i did cuz it is free and easy to learn. i think that was used more for older games though like CS and quake. shrug. if you are just doing it for fun it couldnt hurt.

nm milkshape wasnt free, but the license is cheap. forgot the project ppl got us one.
