I'll be going to Ingolstadt Germany in August. Does anyone know how much money I should bring (Airfare and all lodging is already covered). and what I should see? I'll only be there a week. 6/4/2006 11:02:44 AM |

http://www.thewolfweb.com/message_topic.aspx?topic=403998 i spent about 400 euro while i was there, but i went out to eat once or twice a day and went to bars or clubs every other night. dont bring the money over with you, just get it at an atm over there. dont use the exchange places in the airport. 6/4/2006 11:07:23 AM |

Almost, everything that you would want to buy in Germany is more expensive than here. So just don't buy anything and you will be fine.

the germans know how to eat and drink so almost anything you eat or drink will be awesome
some places also brew their own beer & it puts the shit here to shame

drink as much wiessbier as possible. avoid pils, and remember, once you get a table, its yours for the night until the place shuts down, so don't rush. just relax and enjoy the atmosphere! 6/4/2006 7:22:45 PM |

you're gonna be close to Munich, if you're there in time go during Oktoberfest, I've heard its a blast. Also to go the Hofbrauhaus, and other big beer halls. Oktoberfest this year is Sept 16th through Oct 3rd
Also take a trip down to Fussen to see the Neuschwanstein castle. 6/4/2006 8:16:10 PM |

I want to travel some and see the country. How far is Auschwitz (has anyone been there) and how much does it cost to go see it?
I'm going to Ingolstadt to visit my fiancee. He's working for Audi until December. 6/4/2006 9:37:11 PM |

Auschwitz is a big name concentration camp in Poland and a VERY LONG way from where you're at, but there's a big camp right outside of berlin in Sachsenhausen. It was very eerie seeing that, even the big iron gates saying "Arbeit Macht Frei" were still there.6/4/2006 11:05:58 PM |

My mother is from Heidelberg/Schwetzingen (sp?) and I went when I was very little. There are lots of gorgeous castles and things to see there, I don't know how far away it'll be for you though.
be careful when you eat any kind of sausage - they stick a lot of gross shit in there like the left over cow parts or pig tongues or gross stuff like that.
be sure to eat schnitzel - or ask me how to make it before you go
when i go next summer probably, i'm going to stay at Patrick Henry Village in Heidelberg since my Dad's a retired sergeant major from the Army so I can lodge for $40/night *gets excited* 6/4/2006 11:30:57 PM |

Ehh I don't know.
I don't eat anything that comes in casing. Or deli meats. I've never had bologna in my whole life.
But it's worse in Germany, I think. In the "they use grosser shit" sense.
Reminds me of the ep of The Simpsons where Lisa decides to go vegetarian and she thinks of the hot dog and it gets broken up into like..a raccoon, a shoe and a trashcan. 6/4/2006 11:39:18 PM |

Rothenburg Heidelburg Kaiserslautern (for little America) Straussburg Castle in France. (just across the border on the southern side) Trier is probably my favorite German city. Gorgeous and the pommes frites are kick ass.

depends on what you're planning to do. I got a 2 week one (about $400) good for most of the eurail countries, and it saved me probably $300 compared to buying tickets as we went.6/5/2006 12:13:31 PM |

I went there in '95 to see a cousin stationed in the Air Force
I was just a fat kid at the time, so my favorite part was German french fries. It seems they come free w/ every meal just like bread/hushpuppies do in America.
they are wonderful
oh yeah, American tiolet paper is a bit hard to come by, you may end up wiping with American "paper towels" (yes, the brown hard stuff). Also, public restrooms typically ask like a $.25 tip (in german money, of course) as there's someone there cleaning it all the time. And water costs more than a Coke when you go out to eat because clean water (and thus ice) costs a whole lot.

Is the weather going to be terrible in late august?
And has anyone brought stuff back? What's the limit to alcohol you can carry back with you? My friend wants me to bring him some absinth...but I don't want to get strip searched by a beefy german woman security guard. 6/6/2006 11:28:38 AM |
