Quote :
"The Oilers, in turn, have labelled Brind'Amour - the league's top faceoff man this season - a 'cheater' on faceoffs.

Oilers centre Shawn Horcoff wasn't shy about saying that at all. Brind'Amour fared better than 80 percent on the draw, compared to about 30 percent for Horcoff. The Oilers argue this was made worse by the fact that Brind'Amour's a veteran who gets benefits from the linesmen.

Horcoff, who had a running battle all night with the linesmen and referees, said that Brind'Amour did get tossed out of the circle on a few occasions. But it was only because they complained so much that the referees started making the calls instead of the linesmen.

Horcoff had a real nasty exchange with one of the linesmen in Game 1, and some video will be put together for the NHL and its officials on what they believe to be Brind'Amour's 'cheating.'

The Oilers' argument will be that he does not line up straight at the circle and comes in on an angle. They'll also point out that he benefits from putting his stick down and lifting it up again."

that is pathetic. what a fucking crybaby. horcoff needs to be worrying about get a puck past cam ward instead finding excuses as to why he's inferior to rod brind'amour. i hope brind'amour wins 100% of the faceoffs wednesday night. to top it off, cam ward should throw the puck in horcoff's face after he punks him a couple of more times.

^^ why should this get lost in the game thread? i think this merits a unique thread.
^ you probably should since it wouldn't be good for us if the nhl agrees with the oilers, and sanctions brind'amour or the 'canes somehow.

They have to find something to bitch about since they can't say we hurt their goally (that is correct) in order to win. Brindy has been taking face-offs for a good while now. You would think that if something was wrong with how he lined up that at least one of the 83249832787598495 linesman/refs would have seen it.

That's not cheating even if it's true. It's just a referee's discretion.

Tough call. On one hand they should have waited until the finals are over. If they won the Stanley Cup then they could have avoided crying and looking like babies all together. On the other hand if they lost and waited until the end to cry then everyone would know they are sore losers.

The only real course of action for them to take would be to man up and beat the Canes outright without crying foul at every turn.

you sure about that... Edmonton's the story here... they're the franchise with history, they're the underdog, they're sitting in the middle of the NHL's core fanbase (canada)... do you really think the NHL would prefer for Carolina to get the cup over Edmonton?

we'll hear something about this by the time the series shifts to Edmonton....

Horcoff is just a little steamed that brind'amour won 80% of his draws where he only drew 30%, that and Cam Ward robbed the shit out of him twice.

Goddammit.

All the good faceoff men cheat. It's well-known. Brindy has been teaching his style to Staal; if you watch, Staal has started to line up on angle and cheat his right skate inside the hash mark when he wants a pull to the inside point man.

I honestly can't believe that Bob McKenzie of all people has latched on to this, because he knows better. Horcoff used the word "cheat" in a completely innocent way. If he thought Brindy was a dirty player, he'd have said so.

to be honest, yes. tv ratings are going to be crap this year no matter what due to the fact that people are still disgruntled over the stopage of play, and there isnt a major network picking up all the games.....so, you would think the nhl is almost in a rebuilding year, trying to build up their fanbase again. edmonton is going to have a solid fanbase no matter if they win or lose. carolina, however, only has a really strong base during the playoffs...during the regular season, 20% of the seats are still empty. i would think that the nhl would prefer to pull in new fans in an area where hockey is not king, rather then in an area with more history, since tv ratings are out of the picture.

I'm sure when we won the cup, the oilers gonna whine about how we cheated our way to win it. I hope we get a sweep. That'll show them.

It's worth noting that in games where Brindy doesn't win his usual percentage of draws, he's often taking all of the important ones himself, against any and all of the opposition's quality centermen. Kevyn Adams is very good on draws, but the dynamic of the Adams/Adams/LaRose line is more important to the team than Kevyn's skill in the circle.

You must be a Sharks fan.

Quote :
"do you really think the NHL would prefer for Carolina to get the cup over Edmonton?"

That answer is a bit obvious.

Short and simple reason: Canadians will always love hockey. So Oilers fans don't have to win the Stanley Cup to buy tickets for next year. The Edmonton market in other words is saturated, it has all the interest it could ever have in the area and it will never go up. Us on the other hand, a team that's been here for about 10 years and not a strong hockey culture would benefit the NHL more if we won just cause non-hockey fans in the area that like sports are jumping on the bandwagon.

Plus, while the NHL wants Canadian teams to do well, they do not want them in the finals cause Canadians will watch an all-American Stanley Cup final, while in our case no one would care about the finals if the Canes had lost to Montreal in the first round for example, and the finals were Edmonton-Buffalo.

he's stuck on the philosophy of 4th line = sucky players. Doesn't understand that each line has their own specialized abilities and are necessary for success.

He also doesn't watch the games, seeing as Adams/Adams/LaRose take the first shift after every power play, the second shift after every goal, and the first shift after every penalty kill. Also, K. Adams/LaRose are the second 4-man PK forward pair, and if one of them is in the box, C. Adams fills in. The kill pairs are staggered so that Brind'Amour/Williams go out first, then Adams/LaRose, then Brind'Amour/Williams finish the kill so that Adams/Adams/LaRose can play the first full shift back at full strength.

It's also worth noting that Chad LaRose has been the victim of ridiculous point-blank saves by Huet, Brodeur, and Miller.

It seems to me that all he's saying is to completely dismiss our energy line on points alone, as you seem to be doing, would be completely ignorant thing to do. Craig Adams is in the top 20 of hits. Kevyn Adams is in the top 20 of take aways. Craig and Kevyn Adams both have better faceoff percentages in the playoffs than Brindy. I think the sooner you realize there's more to hockey than just goals and assists, the happier the rest of us will be.

There's a difference between being a physical team and having a checking line. They play an important role for the Canes, even though LaRose was given the boot as a "Welsey might die tonight" precaution in the last game.

As a side note, I hate Kevyn Adams with a hatred that knows no bounds.

I only have one hockey jersey with a non-goalie name on the back. That name is "K. ADAMS".

I'll admit that he's taken some dumb penalties during the playoffs, specifically after whistles, but he works hard, is great on draws, is great on the PK, and has a wicked backhand (it made Melrose say "HOLY MAN!" for chrissakes).
