when you consolidate, do you still keep the ability to defer them while you're a student?

cause grad school is comin' up

all my loans are through CFI

i called them like 3 times today

i ended up applying online since i wouldn't be able to get my stuff there in time through the mail

FYI rates go up on the 14th, at least with CFI, I would think other lenders would too (?)

anyway, call your lender and ask your questions-- you owe them money, they want to make it as easy on you as possible!

if you did it by the 14th you would get the government interest rate...if you do so after the 14th you get a different fixed rate. Its still better than not consolidating at all, which i learned.

like the government rate is 4.7% and if you consolidate after the 14th it is 5+%

and if you're through 1 lender...for example cfi...you fill out the first 4 pages on the lender consolidation form. the first page you fill out your info and two references...the second you don't do anything...the third page you write "consolidate all cfi loans" and check some box that says "regular payment"...then you sign the 4th sheet. Make sure your name and info is at the designated spot at the top of each sheet.

consolidate now and get a hardship deference. Basically the rate will be 2 points higher in Nov/Dec and will just suck.

Is it better to consolidate or go ahead and pay what you got in order to pay it off faster?

No, it's not too late to consolidate. It's just too late to consolidate at the lower rate.

And I dunno where this after the 14th business came from, I applied after the 14th at 4.7%.
