The show tonight was crap....
too much WWE influence...
Even though they can't use Metallica's version of Enter Sandman they should at least use Motorhead's version....Sandman had the best entrance that anyone ever had
I think they are trying to turn the Big Slow to a new 911
Hopefully after vengence, the new ECW will focus on its on brand.
If you want it to be interesting...let the fans bring the weapons(like crutches, pans, etc) like they used to back in the day. I remember fans bringing old school nintendos and keyboards and iron skillets...
this is a shell of what it used to be...
and they reduced Justin Credible to a jobber role....man the WWE hates this guy....i mean he was forced to be Aldo Montoya...and then they bury him.... 6/14/2006 12:58:14 AM |

way too many commercial breaks, they put over the two WWE stars who weren't in the original ECW. The problem that they are going to have is that they do ECW after Smackdown so its a mixed crowd. I also think the problem is WWE killed a lot of ECW mainstays with the exception of RVD. Justin Credible former ECW champ was released by WWE. Stevie Richards was a jobber after his lame RTC gimmick. I think I saw Little Guido win 2 matches in WWE. Look for RVD to lose the WWE title and keep the ECW after Vengence. The Cena-Sabu match will only be good if its ECW rules. 6/14/2006 9:54:08 AM |
timswar All American 41050 Posts user info edit post |
yeah... what was the difference between watching that and watching a WWE program? it's done in Philly, whoop de fucking doo... the philly crowd will turn on them if they don't quit with the wwe crap... unless the philly fanbase has gone soft...
Vince McMahon is just trying to relieve the "glory days" of the 90's in wrestling, when it had it's huge upswing in popularity... trying to revive ECW (with a WWE taint), bringing back DX... just recent examples...
i know the 7 year rule is probably in effect, but still, it just stinks of someone who knows his business isn't doing as well as he'd hoped right now and is trying to bring back that swell of popularity that started a decade ago...
frankly, if he REALLY wants to bring that back, then he needs to hope that TNA becomes somewhat successful, and maybe winds up developing a monday night program to give him some competition 6/14/2006 9:59:44 AM |

There was just an article on CNN.com about how WWE stock is really hot right now, and it figures to stay that way.
Basically the article said the company is doing very well and that wrestling is MUCH more popular now than it was three or four years ago.
Of course, that's nothing compared to the late 90s, like you^ said, but still. They're not exactly HURTING for business right now. 6/14/2006 10:01:46 AM |
timswar All American 41050 Posts user info edit post |
ha, the business is cyclical, the stock'll go down again eventually...
unless they're peaking early... if you notice, since the 60's there's been a point where the business peaks during the decade and then tapers off... in the 70's they peaked because they were one of the first things on cable and got great exposure from that, the 80's peaked with Hulkamania (particularly vs. Andre the Giant), the 90's peaked when Stone Cold/The Rock were building and the NWO was still a ratings force...
i hope they're not peaking too early now, cuz if they are it's gonna be a long wait until next decade's peak.. 6/14/2006 10:06:10 AM |
BigPapa All American 4727 Posts user info edit post |
they just released their 4th quarter report and it was lower than expected due to lower gates and merch sale. But yeah the industry is cyclical. Its hard for Vince because he doesn't have any young star power. Cena is being booed by men, Batista is nearing 40, Triple H, HBK, Flair, 'Taker are all aging or old already. There really isn't any marketable wrestler out there a la the good old days. 6/14/2006 10:22:21 AM |
timswar All American 41050 Posts user info edit post |
yeah, that happens... the older guys start to (already are) dominate most aspects of the business... which can be good... a lot of younger guys develop stronger characters/skills almost as a reaction to having to work against the older guys and prove themselves...
i dunno... i stopped watching wrestling a while ago, i had hopes for this ECW thing, and i'll check it out again (i assume it'll be on next week as well) to see if they start cutting out most of the WWE stuff, but i'm not holding out much hope... 6/14/2006 10:27:04 AM |

I'm not looking for this to be anywhere in the same neighborhood as the original ECW. I do look forward to this being the best of what the E has to offer once they get this little RAW vs. ECW thing done, provided Heyman is given a reasonably long leash with the booking. 6/14/2006 11:37:56 AM |

i think dx is for real this time. i donno who else they would get to join tho.
yea i hope ecws given a long leash...i think its lame big shows in it, and sorta lame angles in it. they coulda had plenty of starpower if they would have only let those who had been in ecw join up. rey are mick foley are the two biggest stars that come to mind still in wwe.
and tna has sucked horribly when i've watched, but they are starting to get some big names. nash, sting, steiner, rhyno, jesse james, billy gunn, christian, jeff jarret, dudleyz i think to name a few.

DX is just going to be Triple H and HBK and will be here just for the summer, but anything is possible in wrestling depends on the fan reaction, the roof about came off the building Monday so it could last longer. 6/14/2006 8:41:38 PM |

I saw ECW at the Ritz (Disco Rodeo) in 1998 or 1999. It was the motherfuckin wins. Balls was there. The Dudley Brothers were there. The Amish Chicken Fuckers were there.
New Jack leaped off the second story and crushed some dude on a table. Then he beat that dude's ass with a crock pot. My roommate scored a piece of the crockpot and it hung on the wall for 6 months until we moved out.
I met Balls in the parking lot and got his autograph.

^^ yeah, if DX is hugely successful right out of the gate you're going to see Michaels postpone whatever surgery he needs to get...
which, of couirse, means hea'll seriously injure himself pretty quickly after that... but that's the price these guys pay 6/15/2006 8:00:10 AM |

^ Yeah. I never figured out exactly what happened, but the fan was on the floor for a long time (15 minutes?) before paramedics even realized anything was wrong and the show just kept going. They eventually carried him out on a stretcher.

hmmm... ECW wrestler list...
Balls Mahoney Big Show (Slow) C.W. Anderson (eh) Danny Doring Francine Jazz Kurt Angle (wtf is he doing here?) Paul Heyman (why is he listed as a wrestler?) Rob Van Dam Sabu (no way in hell Sabu is Sabu on this show) Sandman Tazz (ummm... he's an announcer... does anyone really believe he has his old ring skills?) Terry Funk (the REAL zombie) Tommy Dreamer Tony Malamuke
not overwhelming... not even whelming... maybe if this had been 1996 i'd be impressed by that list, but it's not... 6/16/2006 12:20:48 PM |

Big Guido Trinity

Don't forget...it is back on tonight
Tonight, Sabu and RVD vs Orton and Edge
here's probably what will happen...
Cena will come out and him and Sabu will fight somewhere. Angle will come out and fight with Orton. That will leave RVD and Edge left in the ring....lita will interfere and there will be a DQ(even though there is no DQ rule in ECW) 6/20/2006 4:11:19 PM |
