So my company wants me to do some research into finding a good TIG welder in addition to some classes on TIG welding. They would like for the instructor to teach the classes here on site but I'm thinking that they'd be willing to send the machinist and I to school. I have already looked into the welding classes at Wake Tech and Durham Tech but was wondering if there were any independent classes, like through a local welders supply store, that would teach classes here on site. We would need to be certified at the end of the class. Also, back to the TIG welder, what would you guys think would be the best bang for the buck. Any help would be appreciated.

Finding a good tig welder willing to teach will be hard. Your company will probably be better off hiring a good tig welder who can train you. What are you wanting to tig? that is going to make a big difference too.

call over to national welder's on capital.

shermott is our account rep, and did a "TIG school" at the shop one night

if you already know how to weld.

if you are virgin, full-on school would be better.

^^ all of the stuff we are wellding right now is cold rolled steel sheet metal b/w 18 and 10 GA. Currently we are using a MIG welder but we want to be able to weld pins made from tool steel onto brackets made from CRS. for this we need a TIG welder. in addition we'd like to be able to weld aluminum if need be.

^ thanks for the tip. i'm pretty much a virgin welder. all of my welding expreience was with a MIG or stick welder during my ME senior design project. this is mostly for our machinist. he has about 2 years MIG experience from working here. i'd be taggin along as a back up welder.
