wasn't Herb like the only ACC coach to ever take a 9-seed in the ACC Tournament to the ACC Championship game. he made a sweet-16, two 2nd Round appearances, two 1st Round appearances. he took 3 of his first 7 teams to the ACC Tournament Championship game, becoming only the seventh coach in ACC history to do so. produced the 2003-2004 ACC Player of The Year (who should have also been the 2001-2002 ACC Rookie of The Year, GD that Ed Nelson Son of a Bitch ). he was the 2003-2004 ACC Coach of The Year, and in that same year the NABC District 5 Coach of the Year. he posted 20-win seasons in his final 3 years here. he's won over 250 games in his 13 years of coaching, 191 of which came while at State. the most important accomplishment though was taking a dormant program, and building it back up to respectability, garner national attention, and become a true national power.

tourney appearances are great but not if you never get past the sweet sixteen in 10 years

i still don't know if i wanted herb to stay or to go yet
i'm excited by having an ex-wolfpack star as our headcoach
but if there is no improvement from the herb era in 5 or 10 years
then i'll be wishing we had herb back
