I downloaded an Windows XP pro iso through MSDNAA and thought I would install it. I mounted the iso via alcohol120, because I thought it was just an upgrade and wouldn't need to reboot and install from CD. But it did, I don't have any cd's and can't get any for the time being. However every time I start my machine it brings up a boot menu with my original os and xp setup, is there any way to get rid of the xp setup option?

The entry of the old install is still in your boot.ini.

You can manually edit boot.ini with notepad

it is a hidden file on the root of c:

or you can use the command line tool bootcfg.

bootcfg might be a little safer.

eitherway you just want to delete the old entry.

yes, go to Start -> Run
type: msconfig
hit enter
go to boot.ini tab
tell it to check all boot paths
if one of the lines disappears, then it worked
click ok!

Thanks, I just changed the default through msconfig. That way when I do get cd's I can just go for the upgrade, but I can restart my ocmputer without issue still. Awesome suggestion.

you can also right click my computer > properties > advanced > startup and recovery and do it in there.

I've heard of a few, but mostly tablet users with no optical drives.
