I have graduated. I've bought a house and am living alone. I would love to get a dog but I have some concerns. I work from 8:15 to 5:15 which means I'm away from the house from 7:30 in the morning to around 6. I'm planning to build a fence in my back yard sometime during the summer. I have some concerns about getting a dog. If I get one, he/she would be alone while I'm at work. Is it ok to leave it alone for that period of time? Do any of you have any suggestions? 6/16/2006 11:22:23 PM |

if you have a fenced in yard and dont mind having your dog stay outside - its fine but there are concerns and things to consider- like can the dog escape? over the fence (climber), under (digger) the dog will need shelter in case of bad weather if you have neighbors - if the dog barks they might become annoyed.
really its your decision. i have a fenced yard and my dogs stay outside when i'm home and the weather is nice. but my neighbor hates dogs and i have to bring them in if/when they bark at him (long story...)
i'm sure any dog would love the freedom of staying outside during the day while you're at work and then coming in with you when you get home.
i might suggest getting a pair of dogs so they can keep eachother company. dogs are pack animals and most like company. opposite sex pairs are the best (least fights).
some dogs love being outside and others would rather be in. thats why its nice to adopt from a rescue org. the animals have been in foster home and the foster parents already know the animals personality (whether it likes to be outside, is a digger, a barker, etc...)

I miss Emma!!!! I want to see her so bad, but then if I do... then I would probably want her to stay with me! (*and I don't have the time right now) How is she? I guess we should all make a trip to the dog park soon. Danielle, you know they opened one downtown? Oakwood Dog Park. 6/17/2006 5:00:57 PM |
