the IBM connection program is active and won't allow me to connect to my secured wireless conection. When it was unsecured it worked fine but now it will not. For some reason i cannot switch to the microsoft client to connect. any ideas?

Well, to get windows to manage it, go to start -> settings -> control panel -> network connections -> right-click on the wireless network connection -> click on properties -> click on the "wireless networks" tab -> check the box that says "Use windows to configure my network settings"

Now, to make sure that you've got the radio on your wireless card enabled, hold down the function key (it's small and blue and says Fn, in the bottom left I think) and press F5. A window should pop up that says wireless configuration something or the other. There should be something that says RADIO and next to it it should say ON and OFF. Make sure you select ON and press OK.

Once you've made sure it's working as such, double-click on the wireless icon in the tray (in the bottom right of your screen), click on view wireless networks, double-click on the wireless network listed that's YOUR wireless network (click on "refresh network list" if you don't see yours) and enter in the wireless key you have for your secured wireless network.

If you don't know the key, you're in some trouble. Find somebody who does know the key.

"Microsoft zero" is probably the "Wireless Zero Configuration" service. It allows windows to manage your wireless card, and it's probably already enabled. If not, I'll go into that...

Go into properties and set the network key. I have a Thinkpad and have no problems automatically connecting on campus or (after I gave it the key) to my secure connection at home.

ok i appreciate the help...^^ I have tried all of that- for some reason this IBM doesn't have that option to use Microsoft client. It says to use MS to run some program Zero

^do you use the "IBM Access Connections" client? if so can you help me through it. I am not familiar with this program and have always used intel proset and MS

Double-click on the green bar graph icon in system try (bottom, right-hand corner). It should bring up Access Connections. There should be a button where you can search for WLAN. From there follow teh steps...should pretty much walk you through it. Choose your router, choose the security you are using, enter WEP and access internet.

ok- when i click connect to the network i want- it says connected-disabled- and then searches for the next available network. never gives me the opportunity to put in network key. i went to edit WLAN settings and setr it as

Network Name: Belkin54g (mine)
Connection type: Access Point

WEP:

Enanbled-Use Static WEP Key

WEP Security: enabled-64bit

access point athentication- open

use 10 hexadecimal digits (and put in my network key)

anyone follow all that?

Don't search for a router.

Create a new profile from scratch.

I think the second or third page you simply type in the SSID and on that page (depending on which version of Access Connections you have) all the security options will be there.
