I remember watching the billy sheehan rhs lessons tape where he attempts to explain his style and teach his licks. Paraphrasing just about every scene in the video:

"Yeah, I don't really know much about theory... So I just use my ear... I can't really explain what I'm doing, but this is one of the licks I use"

(Proceeds to play something at lightening speed)

Talented guy, but appallingly terrible teacher... made me laugh.
