we sent a money order as payment for a shipment back on june 1st. we haven't heard from the seller since may 29th, and cannot reach him (by phone or email).
we know he's cashed it. what are the odds of getting our money back from this asshole (short of suing)? we're calling the bank as soon as it opens, but we don't know what they're going to say.

Your chances arent very good... I never send a money order, at least with paypal you have a chance of getting your money back... I quit sending checks after I sent one to Chicago and the guy cashed it and left me negative feedback....
sorry, but how much did you send? 6/20/2006 8:09:28 AM |

this is why i try to use paypal. you can get screwed with paypal too, but generally it is safer and if you buy from the right ppl you shouldnt have to worry too much. 6/20/2006 8:45:16 AM |

I bought something through paypal from a guy a little over a month ago, and never got it. I filed a claim and won, but there is no money in his account and he closed his eBay account, so I doubt there will be money in there any time soon... Makes me not want to use eBay any more. It was only like $25 though. 6/20/2006 8:53:15 AM |

in all fairness, the guy had very good reviews. he was a reputable tarantula seller through a message board i deal with.
his computer had been acting up, so i was forgiving of that. but then he stopped being reachable at all. i've been told by a friend that his girlfriend's relative may have died... but that was weeks ago and honestly anyone with decent professional practice would take the time to contact his buyers. i've heard from another buyer that they also can't reach him.
it was $50 6/20/2006 10:28:12 AM |

So do you not have any good record of the actual sale? I imagine if it was through a third party website it would be easier to convince him to hurry up than if you just e-mailed him or something to arrange payment. At least you could report him through the site or leave negative feedback or something.
Though there was another time when I bought something off ebay and it took them over a month and a half to ship it... they said there was a family illness, but they were still listing a ton of stuff for sale, and just not shipping any of it. Some people are just bitches I guess. 6/20/2006 10:33:30 AM |

if you have proof of him cashing the MO, there is a non delivery complaint form on ebay. you have to submit that the goods were paid and not delivered, wait like 3 weeks to allow him to respond, then send in proof of cashing, then they can get you a refund (supposedly)
when i did this, i didn't have proof of cashing, so i couldn't do anything more than submit the complaint. 6/20/2006 11:19:51 AM |
