Does anyone know of any store or website that sells athletic or trim fit CASUAL shirts (ie polo shirts, t-shirts, etc). I use Paul Frederick to order trim fit dress shirts and they're great. I can't seem to find a site or store that sells more casual trim fit clothes.
To clarify:By trim fit, I mean trim around the waist. Normal size in the shoulders and upper body, with a taper going down to the midsection. I think a lot of us guys could use this, not all that extra material flopping around our midsections.
Thanks for your comments/suggestions. 6/20/2006 10:49:53 AM |

American Eagle has "Skinny fit"...they fit like that- if you're looking to go economical.
Guess, Armani, and Dolce & Gabanna also make them. 6/20/2006 10:53:40 AM |

yeah I usually shop AE because I hate shirts with all the extra fabric flowing around. 6/20/2006 10:54:55 AM |

Welcome to North Carolina, you will enjoy it more than New Jersey.
That being said what you are looking for is a step in the right direction, but only a small step from your tank tops. People buy regular polo shirts for a reason, just follow suit. 6/20/2006 10:56:59 AM |

why don't you hit the gym so you can fill out regular men's sizes 6/20/2006 10:59:03 AM |

P.S. The extra material is to tuck your shirt in. You're welcome for solving your dilemma. 6/20/2006 11:00:56 AM |

Thanks Bobblehead. I hate shopping, and am obviously not much of a clothing connoisseur, so I have no idea about any of this unless it comes from a website (which is where I do 95% of my shopping). I guess I may have to suck it up and go to a mall/store.
The length of the material doesn't bother me, it's the width. So the tuck in solution is not so much of one, but I appreciate the effort/courtesy sass. 6/20/2006 11:11:01 AM |

Most people don't like walking around with a tucked in shirt 24/7. A tucked in polo looks good for some occasions, but not for everyday wear.
Should I get you a pocket protector to go with your constant tucked in shirt NOOB?

That's not the issue. Even when you buy your size, there is still extra fabric. It's probably meant to be tucked in, but who tucks their shirt in all the time?

maybe an American Apparel?
Also sticking with rib fabrics might help or something with some stretch

Men's Lacoste Shirts are cut slimmer like that. I bought my ex boyfriend a Burberry polo and I thoguht it would be really nice and then when he got it and tried it on, it was like a damned tent - defintely made for some fat golfer, middle-aged man. They sell slimmer-fit ones online, but not in Nordstrom (where I bought it).
Try: Brooks Brothers in Crabtree, Nordstrom at Southpoint, Saks at Triangle Town Center. Probably also Banana Republics and J Crew.
Do you have any specific brands or anything you're thinking of? 6/20/2006 11:32:35 AM |

I've had good fits with Kohl's and Aeropostle stuff and I'm a helluva lot wider at the shoulders than the waist. 6/20/2006 11:37:04 AM |

No specific brands in mind. I was kind of hoping to find brands that specifically single out that a certain shirt is slim fit/athletic fit, so I wouldn't have to go try it on. That's probably my biggest pet peeve. 6/20/2006 11:37:41 AM |

the "skinny fit" at AE is it what they call the vintage fit or is it something else, i was looking at their website and im just curious because i have the same issues with clothing. 6/20/2006 9:44:35 PM |

i have the same issues as well with drapey shirts. tucking is annoying and generally uncomfortable. on a semi-related note, i also have issues with shirts at Express -- anyone else noticed the pointed collars on these are abnormally large and wing-like? seriously, these collars are disproportionate as hell. on every shirt i tried in there. 6/20/2006 11:48:20 PM |

can you list some measurements for exactly what you are looking for and it will be much easier to recommend what you want.
most slim-fit shirts at stores are laughable. a slim-fit j.crew/AE/A&F/etc shirt just means it is not cut for the average fat american but it is not slim-fit by any measure 6/22/2006 1:13:01 AM |

^Also, "slim-fit" shirts at the aforementioned places tend to be cut for people that are pretty wiry. They are made for small shoulders, not just smaller waists. 6/22/2006 1:19:17 AM |

wouldnt this worsen the problem since by lifting weights youre usually trying to increase the size of your chest and arms but not so much your waist

The custom fit polo shirts look interesting. The only ding I have against them is that (at least in the pics), it looks like the sleeves are unusually short. Does anyone have any experience with this? I'm not trying to have my sleeves ride up my arms and look like a Jerseyan. "Not that there's anything wrong with that". 6/22/2006 3:41:57 PM |

99.9% of guys who wear shirts that taper like that are gay
proof being that almost every polo shirt they sell at A&F tapers down to almost a pencil sized waist line. 6/22/2006 6:53:32 PM |
