"3:01 pm | Wake Forest recruit indicted on rape charge
Associated Press
SANFORD, N.C. - Wake Forest recruit Dennis Godfrey has been indicted on charges of rape and kidnapping of a 16-year-old girl, according to court records.

Godfrey, a 6-foot-3, 255-pound tight end recruited out of Lee County High School, is also accused of second-degree sexual offense and sexual battery. He could face up to 30 years in prison if convicted on all four counts. The indictments were issued by a grand jury Monday and made public Tuesday.

The accuser says the crimes happened around Oct. 1. Godfrey's father, Dennis Godfrey Sr., said his son and the accuser interacted at a family cookout.

Lee County football coach Jody Stouffer and school district officials said they weren't involved in the matter since it happened off school grounds and Godfrey, 18, is no longer a student in the system.

SuperPrep ranks Godfrey the No. 42 tight end in the nation in the class of 2006. He was also recruited by Clemson, South Carolina and Virginia Tech.

If convicted, I estimate that this guy may become the #12 tight end in a local prison.

Apparently it was 4 players, and no charges were filed after the completion of the investigation in March.

Wake Forest football players sometimes cross the line. Illegal hitting is only allowed below mid-thigh. If they want to hit the groin area they should join the basketball team.
