My cheap-ass rolling suitcase just broke and I need a replacement. I'm considering buying a duffel because I think it will be lighter. However, everybody everywhere seems to have a rolling suitcase. I don't know if this phenomenon is a result of a brilliant marketing campaign, or if rolling luggage is just superior.
What does everybody here use and why? For what its worth, I never check luggage; I always pack everything into a carry-on. 6/23/2006 8:40:29 AM |

If you are just going with a carry on, go rolling duffel...unless you fly small planes. Then it is getting stuffed underneath regardless. The main advantage to a rolling suitcase is durability and they pack well. 6/23/2006 8:42:47 AM |

i have a duffel bag and it's a pain in the ass. don't get a duffel bag if you're going to be walking around a bunch of airports/cities with your luggage.
also: getting through subway turnstyles with a big-ass duffel bag can be a pain. 6/23/2006 8:43:17 AM |

We used to get all these expensive pieces of luggage when I was younger, but it just wasn't worth it because they'd always get damaged during our travels.
I ended up just buying a gigantic rolling duffel bag from LL Bean for next to nothing in cost, and use that for all my undershirts, underwear, socks, shoes, etc. I also carry a nice hanging bag for my suits, shirts, and pants so they won't get wrinkled as bad.
My dad has one of those suitcase/hanging bag combos that gunzz was talking about. It's nice, I may have to invest in one sometime. 6/23/2006 8:11:47 PM |

replace a rolling suitcase with a rolling suitcase.. makes sense. I haver an expandable rolling bag. It's a duffle at its smallest and a rolling suitcase when you unzip it. 6/23/2006 11:09:12 PM |
