i'm eventually going to get around buying a new plan so i can get a new phone. i wanted to see if you guys had used any of the < $60 alltel phones and what the reception was like for em. it pisses me off when i can only use my phone in certain parts of my apartment. my girlfriend is on alltel and she gets fine reception here (so i know it's possible), but they don't sell her phone anymore.

Go Verizon. Better coverage and fucking EV-DO in Raleigh. Enough said.

Except Verizon cripples the Bluetooth features on most of their phones...meaning you have to hack the software to get full bluetooth...Alltel does not put crappy restrictions on their phones...and I have never had EV-DO problems ANYWHERE in Raleigh through Alltel (You do realize Alltel has EV-DO too right?)...but whatever works best for ya

i didn't mean this to turn into a pissing contest for wireless providers. i'm sticking with alltel, just wanted to know about the reception strength of some of their phones.

Actually they have been re-enabling the Bluetooth capabilities on the newer phones, probably due to outcry against it. The 8100's that just were phased out were very limited on Bluetooth capability, but the 8300's that replaces them have several more options re-enabled on the bluetooth configuration.

Just an FYI
