^ If I had to guess I 'd say he is saying that accepting catholicism gives one a sense of security, but the cost is you must give up your earthly pursuits. His "world of loveliness" would become a world of carnal iniquity.

(of course his "world of loveliness" is an illusion from the Catholic's view, but since I'm not a Catholic I'll let someone else try to read further between the lines)
