I couldn't see a thread like this, but knowing tww, it's probably been done already...

Name your all time favorite song that was made specifically for a movie.

David Bowie

streets of philadelphia - bruce
save me - aimee mann
freedom isn't free - matt and trey

i could come up with some more songs if i was at my computer at home.

freesom isn't free is probably the best parody song ive ever heard. my mom really thought it was a country song when she first heard it.

IIRC, that song was originally made by Dolly Parton before the movie was ever made.

"I Believe I Can Fly" was seriously overplayed (they sang that song at freshman orientation at A&T), but it's still pretty good.

Indeed. Written, recorded, and published by Dolly Parton, so she made $texas when Whitney covered it.

Also, "Singin' in the Rain" and the other songs in that flick were not written for it...the songs were sitting in a vault for years and the movie was written for the songs.

This song is not an original. It was recorded in 1979 by Joy Division.

Smashing Pumpkins - Eye

^ Those two only appeared on that soundtrack, but I don't think they were neccessarily original. I know that "Eye" was a last minute replacement for a Pixies song that they couldn't get the rights to, so it might've just been sitting around Corgan's bedroom.
