it was kinda a joke. Besides if they did China would launch a full force campaign against them. Terrorist is another word for freedom fighter these days even if the people have a legitimate reason to revolt.
But what the train really does is effectively integrate Tibet into china. China doesn't want people to see Tibet as a separate place. It's serves the goal of sinocizing Tibet while making it look like they genuinely care about the tibetans. As I understand they have already done that, the native Tibettans are already a minority in their region, for the last several decades the Chinese have been shipping Tibettans to elsewhere in China and moving in Chinese. 7/3/2006 8:35:22 AM |

True. Realistically, Tibetan independence is dead... unless they're willing to ethnically cleanse tens, if not hundreds of thousands of Han Chinese who's parents and grandparents moved into the region and birthed them there. 7/5/2006 10:41:00 AM |
