...do any of you know where I can?
It appears that Hertz doesn't have any wheel tractors or chisel plows at any of their local locations. 7/3/2006 1:28:32 PM |

For most folks, yes it is!
But we do soils and land consulting for individuals/developers who are installing septic systems for new houses and developments. Soils compaction, especially on sites where the dumbasses take shortcuts with road construction equipment, is a big issue, and every now and then we're required to renovate a site to render it useful for septic drainfield lines.
This is one of those times. I wish we owned a 50 or 60 horsepower tractor and a good woods mower and chisel. But alas, we do not.
Jeepman and 69...thanks. I'd forgotten about Sunbelt. Greg Poole doesn't have a wheel tractor like I'd need, and neither does Hertz, strangely enough.7/3/2006 6:10:30 PM |

check the ag review. you might be able to buy a reasonably priced tractor and plows that you need. the smaller tractors go really high, but larger ones are much cheaper. 7/3/2006 6:34:15 PM |

Damn if there ain't an assload of Farmall A, C, 100, and 140 tractors.
Actually, for a 40 to 60 hp tractor, there are a lot to choose from, and the prices aren't that bad. The big deal is I wonder how many hours they have on them. And are they clapped the fuck out?
I don't think the old man is up for buying a tractor at this point in time. 7/3/2006 7:13:22 PM |

when buying an older one, remember this- perkins motors have removable sleeves, and ford tractors are good, but you have to bore them out when you rebuild them. you might be able to find an oddball like a David Brown or something cheap. JD, Ford, and MF tend to bring more than case and AC for some reason. maybe you can talk the old man into buying one- you'll find a lot of uses for it. a boom pole is real handy for moving and pulling motors and other junk. 7/3/2006 7:54:17 PM |

To continue this thread...we need to renovate a site off of Turnipseed Rd in the eastern part of Wake County.
Any of you know who has a tractor (preferrably with a loader) and a subsoiler who would hire out for a couple hours of work? 7/3/2006 8:29:34 PM |

after looking at 50 hp massey's and ford's for a couple months my dad ended up with a 100 hp john deere 4000 w/ loader for $6500 at an estate sale, and I'd let you use it but I don't have a chisel plow and its a scosh to heavy for my truck to pull. 7/3/2006 8:54:31 PM |

I imagine so. What a deal, though. That's a tad big fer us.
But it would give me an excuse to buy meself something like a C6500 and a tilt trailer to tag along.7/3/2006 8:57:10 PM |

I towed it home, fuquay to willow springs, w/ my truck (2500hd w/ the 6.0) and 20 ft gooseneck rated at 7 tons. I kept it slow and made the trip in about 45 minutes. The tractor is supposed to weigh about 8000 lbs, the loader another 1000, and the trailer weighs 4000. My truck is good for 12k so I was 1k overloaded (however my tags are rated much higher).
It made it w/out too much trouble, and I didn't hurt the truck at all. 7/4/2006 7:36:38 PM |
