This deal will never happen, but just to get the party started in here...A-Rod on the move to the cubs? Now There's A Trade RumorThis is a hell of a trade rumor, and it'd be wrong not to pass it along. According to the blog Bleed Cubbie Blue:"The Cubs are reportedly "in discussions" with the Yankees for a deal in which the principals would be Aramis Ramirez...and Alex Rodriguez...This deal, if it happens, might also include Jacque Jones, and other lesser players including prospects on both sides. This same source told me that the White Sox are "close" to acquiring Andruw Jones from the Braves; the price would be Brian Anderson and young pitching. That deal would also make sense for both sides. If the A-Rod to the Cubs deal happens, also expect Todd Walker to be moved (maybe to the Tigers), and at that point A-Rod moves back to SS, Ronny Cedeno to 2B, and the Cubs get a placeholder 3B until they can either sign one or trade for one in the offseason."Just to reiterate, all of the above comes courtesy of Bleed Cubbie Blue. My own personal feeling is that the rumor did indeed originate from a legitimate source. Now let's take a closer look. As you may know, A-Rod's contract deserves a webpage unto itself. As far as I can tell, the Yankees, or any other team, would owe him $16MM annually through 2010. Based on projections, that's pretty close to fair value. Aramis Ramirez was given the unfortunate ability to opt out of his current deal and become a free agent after this season. Even if 2006 is an off-year, I think he could top the three years, $33.5MM he's owed in the deal. 1060west sums it up: Ramirez will probably test the market given the weak class at the position. MLBtraderumors.comNow, my input. that deal would be stupid on many levels for the Yankees.Names on the block this year:TejadaAbreauDontrelleMiguel CabreraZitoSmoltzcarlos leesorianoanyone I am forgetting?[Edited on July 3, 2006 at 6:19 PM. with injuries to Sheff and Matsui, they are not going to move Arod's bat from the lineup. If anything, they will go after pitching first before they trade their position players.
7/3/2006 6:19:58 PM
also alex has a no-trade clause, brings in a TON of money in merchandice, and is one of the most marketable faces in sports.
7/3/2006 6:21:27 PM
^^^ that is probably the most retarded hype rumor ive ever seen (the cubs trade)the list of players "on the move" should not include Willis, Cabrera, or Tejada[Edited on July 3, 2006 at 6:37 PM. Reason : ,]
7/3/2006 6:36:36 PM
I know Zito's one of the main names being tossed around, but who are the A's looking to bring in for him?
7/3/2006 6:45:30 PM
no one as long as they are in the playoff hunt
7/3/2006 6:49:02 PM
ahaha this is ridiculousandruw has gone on the record more than once saying if he can't play in atlanta, he'll retire
7/3/2006 7:44:45 PM
Yeah the thought of either Jones leaving ATL is crazy. What kinda bullshit shit is that?
7/3/2006 9:32:11 PM
D-Train is as good as gone

A-Rod for Tejada
7/4/2006 2:24:28 AM
Tejada would be an even worse defensive 3B then A-Rod (who is pretty damn good for it not being his natural position).I still can't get over the fact that a gold glove third baseman moved positions for a subpar defensive SS to keep his space.. the Jeter gold glove was a farce..
7/4/2006 1:55:56 PM
supposedly detroit is shopping for an OF to play LFoddly enough, carlos lee for zach minor, kyle sleeth, and marcus thames has been rumoredthough i think he'd be a bad fit for the tigers, and sleeth is going to be a monster one daythis was brought to you by the detroit sports talk station, they are usually pretty on[Edited on July 4, 2006 at 2:16 PM. Reason : it makes sense with the tigs gettin maroth back and having way too many quality arms in the minors]
7/4/2006 2:14:25 PM
Tigs need a lefty bat with who hits for average and can steal bases.
7/5/2006 10:48:57 AM
I am going to be pissed if the Yanks trade Arod
7/5/2006 10:56:01 AM
He isn't going anywhere...^^ They were saying in New York that the Mets turned down an offer the Tigers made for Cliff Floyd.. Mets wanted Zumaya; Tigers said hell no...[Edited on July 5, 2006 at 10:57 AM. Reason : x]

7/13/2006 5:17:02 PM
^that deal opens up a trade for the nats to get rid of Sori or Guillen
7/13/2006 5:19:35 PM
gad if hte sox got jones and only ahd to give up anderson and some minor leaguers i would nut
7/13/2006 5:20:57 PM
Royce Clayton, the former Cardinals SS?He is like 35 and washed up. Lopez is still young and was an all-star.The Reds are stupid. They actually think they can make the playoffs?
7/13/2006 5:22:43 PM
that was the worst trade i have ever seenthe reds GM needs to get firedhe crippled his team
7/13/2006 5:51:17 PM
can't believe the reds dumped austin kearns. natty fans can officially take their soriano shirts to goodwill now.
7/14/2006 8:45:11 AM

^ care to eloboratethe reds got what they needed in some new pitchers (which has been their problem for past few years)
7/14/2006 10:34:11 AM
That isn't too bad. Gotta give to get. If the pitching help improves them to solidify their wild card spot then I say go for it.. Guardado last week also will help...I don't remember his name but I recently heard an interview from the Tigers GM who traded John Smoltz. Asked if he would do it again he said he'd do it 100 out of 100 times. Doyle Alexander gave them a chance to win a World Series. For a small market team you go for it EVERY TIME you have a chance...[Edited on July 14, 2006 at 11:12 AM. Reason : not that DET is your typical 'small market' team of course.. they have $$$]
7/14/2006 11:12:20 AM
it was a great trade for the tigers that season doyle went 8-0 down the stretch
7/14/2006 1:39:39 PM
I'm wondering if Omar is even going to pull a deal this year.. Pelfrey looks good and might be an internal solution to solidifying the rotation..This is a fine time of year.. too bad Gammons isn't around to get everything wrong right now.** oh and mlbtraderumors is a crap site. I can go there and post a bullshit rumor and have it stick as long as it sounds believable. I use metsblog.com still since the guy has tons of connections and has nailed some trades before ESPN even reports it. (don't know if he is just doing Mets stuff now or all of baseball like in the offseason)[Edited on July 19, 2006 at 11:40 AM. Reason : x]
7/19/2006 11:39:15 AM
i'll be upset if the Tigers land Sorianoand I really hope Kenny Williams makes a move to get us a reliable center fielder. mackowiak and anderson aren't cutting it. SOMEBODY must want to play for a contender
7/19/2006 11:54:19 AM
Rumors are swirling that the Red Sox are interested in current Philly, former Yankees, former Cub Jon Lieber, who has been terrible this season, but with slim pickings in the pitching dept he might not be a bad pickup.
7/19/2006 12:34:20 PM
On Mike and Mike this morning, Jayson Stark was saying that Greg Maddux will be the biggest "name" starter available. He won't go to an East Coast team though and in reality only the Dodgers, Padres, and Brewers seem to be good fits. Stark said the Dodgers are his most likely location. It would be cool if the Braves got him back, assuming he could be a somewhat effective starter the rest of the season. Thomson is horrible and Hudson has given up 5 plus earned runs in 5 of his last 6 starts. He'd atleast be a reliable innings guy unlike Thomson.
7/19/2006 12:54:37 PM
i think Maddux will ultimately wind up with the Mets. they need another starter and he is obviously boys with glavine, not to mention the postseason experience he holds. obviously he has struggled, especially as of late, but if my Cubs could muster the offense that the mets boast this season, Maddux would have a W-L record of over .500.

are you dumbprosportsdaily is nothing BUT links to articles from major newspapers
7/19/2006 2:08:57 PM
yes, and the articles often co-inflict or are opinion columns on what teams should do, not what they are thinking about doing.but thanks for trying to be a jackass.

7/19/2006 3:35:00 PM
not a word
7/19/2006 3:36:49 PM
I dont think the Yanks will make a move for soriano because Washington wants pitching, and the Yankees will NOT trade Phillip Hughes, period.
7/19/2006 3:50:09 PM
Any word on if the braves will be looking to add any relievers?Even though Giles is a decent player, just a horrible leadoff hitter, i think he is gone if he isn't on the dl by the trading deadline. I wonder if the possibility of trading Giles is the reason why he hasn't been put on the dl yet.I am also surprised that Sosa wasn't sent packing after Cox went out and chewed him out on Monday night.
7/19/2006 5:03:26 PM
i don't know who schuerholz is looking at, but i want zumayawe'll have to give up someone big to get him though
7/19/2006 5:05:22 PM
