jeep overheated the other day and now i have symptoms of a blown headgasket . no choclate milk but i have over heating and white smoke out of the exhasut and passenger side of the engine so it's burning coolant . my delima is that the jeep is a '95 w/185k miles on and countless minor defects. i imagine i could find some sucker to give me a 1000$ for it, i could spend $250(not sure how much it cost to have heads milled) or so + a good bit of my time repairing the gasket and risk something else going wrong later i.e. tranny or i could try some engine block sealant and just ride the thing till the wheels fall off. if u were in my shoes what would u guys do?? 7/8/2006 2:34:45 AM |

it's a no frills grand cherokee. how long do you guys think it would last w. block seal? everybody i know who's used it dumped their vehicle on a clueless buyer right after sealing it up. 7/8/2006 3:11:24 AM |

I drove one a long time with the carquest metallic liquid glass in it. it wasn't leaking as bad as yours is, though. it's worth the 10 dollars to try it.

dont be a douche and unload it on someone without telling them. if you do do that then i hope you have the shittiest luck with vehichles the rest of your days. personally, i would try the cheap fix then drive it till it shits the bucket. grand cherokees are definitely a buyers market so you wouldnt get much for it even if it was in excellent shape. 7/11/2006 11:08:22 PM |

Block sealer. The sodium silicate "liquid glass" kind. I did me pap's truck with it last year, and it's still holding. 25k miles later...
On the down side, the fucking thermostat was the big reason the fucker blew the head gasket in the first place. I shoulda replaced the damn thing prior to doing the block sealer, but didn't. So...the damn thing boils over while I'm doing the sealer. Gets so low on water that the tops of the flues were exposed. I think some of them sealed over.
Bottom line is, shortly thereafter, the fucking radiator tank splits (plastic), and I end up replacing it. 200 dolla vs. 1200 for a used engine.
I still came out ahead significantly. 7/11/2006 11:19:06 PM |

I've used K&W (same folks that make Copper Coat spray gasket compound).
Carquest also has their store brand. And Prestone markets their own as well. They are all pretty much the same.
