They are highly disorganized, run poor candidates for the most part (see Vernon Robinson), and seem apethetic about it to boot. I am saying this as a registered Republican. If I had more time, I'd have tried to get more involved.

For instance, while setting up service learning products for my students, I would call the Dems and GOP saying I have students who will volunteer for your candidate's campaigns. The Dems would answer all calls within 24 hours, get me with campaign managers, and check up to make sure things were going well. The GOP would return a call after 4, seem confused about the whole thing, and not intrested in having volunteers.

yeah I probably should have clarified the scope of that. I don't have much of an issue w/ most of the voters, or w/ most of the ones in office.

but the people running the Party nowadays...

I have never seen any evidence that the old boys in the NC GOP see us, the people, as anything more than tools. It may be that the NC Dems don't see us as anything else, either, but at least they try to cover it up.

Quote :
"The cost to feed and entertain state and local officials and their family members aboard a state-sponsored party cruise this month was more than $27,000, new invoices from the outing show.

The costs include coconut-flavored lip balm, suntan lotion and twill caps given to guests who cruised on a state ferry, the Floyd Lupton, to take in the tall ships festival and waterfront views of Beaufort this month.

The luncheon menu featured shrimp, lime-smoked scallops and mussels, chopped smoked salmon spread and smoked bluefish pate.

The wine and beer tab for the July 1 lunchtime outing was about $2,700 -- and a state-funded economic development organization is picking it up.

All totaled, the cost of the two-hour cruise for about 270 people is now at more than $30,000, according to the new documents and interviews with state officials.

The state Ports Authority sponsored the cruise as a way to entertain lawmakers and expose them to port operations and goals.

...

Easley was invited to the cruise but says he does not recall seeing the invitation and did not attend. Top officials in his administration, including Commerce Secretary Jim Fain, Administration Secretary Britt Cobb and Cultural Resources Secretary Libba Evans, did attend.

The cruise took place as thousands of festival visitors strained to see the tall ships, forcing organizers to offer refunds because of overcrowding. The outing was on one of the state's largest ferries, taken out of service for five days to be cleaned and painted. A smaller ferry took the Lupton's regular place, and traffic backed up as a result.

The state Department of Transportation, which operates the ferries, is absorbing costs of more than $2,800.

...

At least three lawmakers have taken steps to reimburse the state for their share of the cost, calculated at $91.25 per person. That figure is based on the cost to the Ports Authority and an estimated attendance of 270.

One of those paying back is Rep. Laura Wiley, a High Point Republican who took her husband and parents on the cruise.

Wiley said she did not know the state was paying for her trip -- and acknowledged she didn't ask how the trip was financed.

When told the costs of the cruise Friday, she paused.

"Oh, my gosh," she said. "My goodness. Well. I hope we have all learned a lesson from this."

Rep. Pricey Harrison, a Greensboro Democrat, and Rep. Margaret Dickson, a Fayetteville Democrat, also have said they will reimburse the state.

According to multiple officials who were on the ship, other legislators on the trip include Reps. Bill Daughtridge, a Rocky Mount Republican; Nelson Dollar, a Cary Republican; Phil Frye, a Spruce Pine Republican; Ed Jones, an Enfield Democrat; Marian McLawhorn, a Grifton Democrat; Russell Tucker, a Pink Hill Democrat; Edith Warren, a Farmville Democrat; and Art Williams, a Washington Democrat; and Sen. Robert Holloman, an Ahoskie Democrat.

Many could not be reached for comment.

Warren, a four-term member of the House, said Friday that she took her husband, daughter and granddaughter on the cruise.

"Certainly, if I had any idea it was going to become the creature that it has, then I'm sure folks would not have participated," she said. "We're going to have to look at every single thing in a much different light now.""

I only regret attending the booze cruise because the people are upset. It does not concern me that over $30,000 of tax payer money was spent, a major ferry was taken out of service, and 40% of available waterborne security was used for the sole purpose of providing entertainment to my family and me.

Republicans aren't a majority or even a plurality in NC. They're just the only ones that vote.

To be fair, of the two house democrat majority in the general assembly, a good chunk of them are dixiecrats and DINOs.
