Getting ready to purchase a queen size bed...looking for a good quality mattress (with box springs) and not wanting to spend more than $800.00 on one. I've never purchased a mattress before, so other than the commercials with the sheep (is that Sealy or Serta?) and the foam mattresses I really don't have any idea what else is out there...any suggestions? I know it's all personal preference as far as firmness or softness...but as far as longevity/quality mattress...what's good?

My boyfriend and I (he works for Fred's Beds so we got a good deal) have a top of the line Kingsdown. It's amazing, I never want to get out of bed in the morning. It is pricey though, but you can sometimes swing their good floor models on deep discount or at their Clearance Center near at the corner of Tryon Road and 70/401/S. Wilmington/whatever it's referred to as right there.

bttt...REALLY REALLY wanting a new mattress...its to the point that i wake up sore 3-4 days a week and i never feel rested...hoping to find a "decent" mattress for 500 or less- is this possible or am i going to have to spend more

i've also been told that if you get a cheaper mattress, you can just get a foam cover and then put a down comforter on that

suggestions?

depends if you like firm, plush or pillowtop

realizing I could never remove myself from a pillowtop bed in the morning, I opted for the still-fabulous, plush model. I'll have an easier time finding sheets to fit and the plush was about $150 less than the pillowtop from the same brand.

Never pay list price; sales are so frequent, you can expect to save 1/3 to 1/2 off the list price...so a $1200 set should cost between $600-800.

Great shopping experience: Fred's Beds. Excellent service, on-time and super speedy delivery.
OK shopping experience: the big mattress shop by Kohl's on Walnut [they're all the same!!]
Horrible shopping experience: the mattress shop near where Houlihan's used to be, out front from Home Depot in Cary.
