While I think there are advantages to the small town college experience, I've thoroughly enjoyed my

experiences here at State and in Raleigh. One of the reasons why I chose State over Tennessee (it

came down to State and UT) was that Raleigh was a larger city than Knoxville. I'm from Charlotte,

and after spending a lot of time in Chapel Hill this summer, I have come to the conclusion that a small

town college might not have been as fun for me, even though Chapel Hill is near two decent sized

cities (Durham and Raleigh). Other factors were involved such as the strength of State's science

programs, it was in-state, I liked the fact that the Hurricanes were here so that I could catch an NHL

game when I wanted to, and I just felt good about the place on my visit. I felt at home. All this

after spending many a weekend in Knoxville on hockey trips. So I knew it fairly well. I had spent

way more time in Knoxville than Raleigh during my lifetime prior to coming to school at State. I think

Raleigh makes the college football experience work. We have a great gameday atmosphere, with

excellent tailgating. Also unlike a lot of big cities, we have a ton of parking all around the stadium.

In fact a lot of the small town colleges don't have nearly the type of parking situation we have. You

go to VaTech and Clemson. The parking is spread all the fuck out. At VT the public parking lots are

all the hell the way across campus. Sometimes it's nice to walk through campus and see the

buildings, but other times I just want to get a feeling for how big the whole experience is. The way

the C-F lots are all right around the stadium makes it feel like a mini-city full of 60,000 people all

partying in a 1-2 square mile area. I'm glad that college football isn't the only thing I can look

forward to on Fall Saturdays in Raleigh, unlike other colleges out in Bumfucksville, USA.

Knoxville is perfect for a college town... it gets boring as shit after about 5 years, you have seen and done everything there is to do... but damn those 5 years are fun

i'm not claiming Raleigh has better college football fans than Knoxville, b/c that would be no comparison in favor of Knoxville. State has some very passionate, and knowledgable fans for both football and basketball.

why?

i love how it is now, this way its a seperate entity showing that our academics and athletics are seperate but yet contained inside the spectrum of our University. I wouldnt have it in the middle of campus anyways, if you really want to be at the games you will make it to the game a mile down the road...thats my opinion. we dont need just some random drunk college kids at the game, need fans that will actually care about the team and the game.

i like where it's at. if it was closer to the main campus, even right across from main campus it'd be a traffic nightmare. with C-F being right beside 440, the area is able to handle the traffic better, and we already know how bad the traffic can get, especially come State Fair time. besides i doubt a lot of us would have been raised during our colllege years on real tailgating, instead of just drinking in the dorms and then going to the game like a lot of other schools, i.e. the one down the road.

yea, I like where C-F is situated. I don't like how we have to give up our choice for one home game because of the state fair each year. We can't help that.

I would prefer it on campus, no comparison. And traffic wouldnt be a nightmare because people would alter the way they moved around on game day. For example, in Knoxville, you park your car early in the morning, tailgate, go to the game, and then after the game you dont even think about driving anywhere, but there is no need to since its right there at campus everything you would want to do is already right there. Bars, restuarants etc.

Now, obviously some of the older fans arent into that but thats why they pay to park where they can easily get out, but the typical fan doesnt really worry about getting in and out because everything there is to do is right there where you are already

I know you didnt jsut say State has knowledgeable fans about college football.

The majority of the people at the games know jack shit.

All they do is yell "THAT WASNT HOLDING FUCK YOU REF" the entire game.

I think all stadiums should be kept on campus. That should just be a rule of college football. I much prefer the way the SEC has it. I was recently in both Knoxville, and Auburn, and I can say I like the way their stadiums are set up much better. They hold more than ours, there are more traditions, everything is all around better.

The ACC is a good conference for football, but realistically we don't have anything to compare ourselves to the SEC. They know how to do Football right.
