My brother has been given a car by my grandparents in NY. They surrendered the plates a year ago . . . . everything is still in good shape and has been inspected by their mechanic up there, so that shouldn't be a problem.
Here's what I want to know: what do we need to get before I drive him up there to pick it up? The title has been signed over to him, and he's gotten insurance. How does one get temporary plates to move a car? Or does he need to get the real plates/etc first? 7/14/2006 7:54:37 AM |

you can get temp. plates from the license plate office.
there's one in south hills mall (cary, by crossroads) and one in wake forest. those are the only two i've ever been to. 7/14/2006 10:50:58 AM |

^good advice (not really)- Well i would sat ur a dumbass and get off TWW and call dmv.
but
You can't get them in NC... You have to get them through NY. Call dmv or stop by when you get there and ask for "In TRansit" tags... $13. I am from NY and had to do the same last year.
BTW: When r u makin the trip up there and where in NY? 7/14/2006 7:52:10 PM |

actually that can cause a lot more trouble than just driving without a tag and saying that you just bought the vehicle.
do you mean that the title has been transferred to his name through the dmv or just that your grandparents just signed the back of it?

I think you can register/insure it in NC. It will have to be inspected again within like a month once you get here. Let's consult the horse's mouth: http://www.ncleg.net/gascripts/Statutes/StatutesTOC.pl?Chapter=0020 7/15/2006 4:17:59 PM |
