OK so we may have africanize honey bees in my neighbors yard. basically the landlord did something to piss off a "honey bee" hive. They look just like honey bees, only problem they swarmed for 30 or 45 minutes(maybe even longer not entirely sure) and killed a very good friend of mines dog, and stung us a many many times. They didnt act like regular honey bees at all, and they didnt lose their stingers when they stung us or the dog(i htought honey bees did though i could be wrong). I need to find out what i need to do about these bees, and if there is someone that can identify these bees for us, if they are africanize i am getting the hell outta my place untill someone handles these SOB's

You're really unlikely to find any Africanized bees here, so I'm seriously doubting that. Was this nest underground? If not, I'd say you're looking at things more like wasps or hornets, which are much more common in this area.

I took an ENT class and if I remember correctly, the professor said that most honey bees are mixed with africanized bees. There are a lot of these bees in the south and they have been slowly moving north I'm not sure if they are in NC now but I remember they were seen in states like Texas and Oklahoma. Its been awhile so I'm not 100% sure. What might help if you could take a picture or find a picture that looks like the bees in your backyard and take it over to the entomology department. They're exremely nice and will help you.

"Africanized bees proliferate because they are less discriminating in their choice of nests than native bees, utilizing a variety of natural and man-made objects , including hollow trees, walls, porches, sheds, attics, utility boxes, garbage containers and abandoned vehicles. They also tend to swarm more often than other honey bees."

But yeah, it doesn't seem likely that they would be all the way up here either. Heres a map of the spread.

well Mr. Donald Hopkins with the NC Departmen of Agriculture came out today, regretfull the hive was pretty much destroyed, said he could smell kerosen or some other accelerant. We are down to a dozen or so bees. I am kinda disappointed cause i was curious to know what kind they were other than pissed off. I have to now get him in touch with the landlord. he did say that the bees did seem to act a little strangly based on my description of what happened. So nowihave to trackdown his information. I'll let yall know about further developments... oh yeah and fuck bees
