has anyone here had any luck with engineering employment agencies/professional staffing companies?
if so, who and what do they charge? 7/17/2006 10:22:54 PM |

I got found for my job by Modis. I had posted my resume on Monster.com and they called me for a position in Cary for a CE
They don't charge you anything... they charge the company that hires you like 15% of your first year salary. (Doesn't take away from your salary... but thats the price for your company). It varies between staffing services exactly how much they charge... usually between 10% - 30% of your hiring salary
FWIW, the Modis in Cary deals almost exclusively with Engineering staffing I believe

well, if it's one of the first interviews, I'd read up on current happenings. Basically, sorta memorize the annual report. It's fun to know the company as if it belongs to your dad. I met the research head of a medical device company when still in grad school, and he was very impressed that I knew the numbers pretty accurately (revenue, research budget, growth, etc.).
Basically, show that you were meant to be there, and they'd make a huge mistake not to hire you. Then, since it's finance, be sure to think of some nifty topics of conversation you could fuel to your advantage. Unless the hiring managers have sticks up their anuses, the first 1-2 meetings are going to be pretty informal IMO. Be sure to bring some level of cheer. They are probably seeing 5-6 people a day for the same position, so it helps to embed something in their brain that distinguishes you. 7/18/2006 12:09:38 AM |

agreed, it is a small advantage that a headhunter called me, but i will treat it as if it is a standard first interview
gotta do my research, it is next week!
i'd really like to work for gsk, i'd feel good working for a company that helps cure illnesses and make people's lives better 7/18/2006 12:11:36 AM |

don't say that in the interview though.
You're working at GSK to make money, not to save the world. 7/18/2006 12:13:27 AM |

Just be confident, and seem willing to learn/master what you don't know very well...bullshitting could help you, but not always. 7/18/2006 12:15:41 AM |

Most of them charge you nothing, they charge the company you work for a bundle. The temps we have probably get about 13/hr...but we pay their staffing agency $19.75-25 an hour based on the temps skill. 7/18/2006 10:38:51 AM |
