Are there any other websites besides the knot for planning a wedding/making a cute wedding announcment webpage?
PLEASE GIVE YOUR OPINIONS, if you've used other sites...
We had a site through myevent.com and I don't like it. The HTML is effed up, and the knot is gay.

i just googled "wedding planning" and got about 47,800,000 results...the first page has 9 other sites other than the knot that does this. 7/18/2006 11:05:24 AM |

well you didn't ask for opinions on those other sites...you just asked for sites
ohhhh don't be so sore about it...
anyway...my brother and his wife had a family member that bought a site that they designed on their own to announce the wedding, have a guestbook, and keep friends and family updated on what was going on. they had the site for about 6 months (3 mo b4 and after the wedding)...it was a site where it was easy to design, but they had their own domain name as their names versus a number attached to "theknot" or "blisswedding" or whatever .com
might want to look into that if you want it to be more personal to you and your fiance's taste etc.
and she did the old fashioned way of having a big notebook with her ideas for what she wanted (cutting out pictures from magazines or that she found online) and went to a bunch of bridal shows to get names of caterers, bakers, florists, etc...

weddings are easy if you have that much time - how can you say they are hard if you have that much time - mine is next june and we have way too much time - minus location the entire thing could be done stress free in 3 months using just the weekends 7/18/2006 11:01:03 PM |

Seriously, my wife planned our wedding during her 4th year of vet school. Getting started early is huge. The only thing we didn't get that we wanted was our rehearsal dinner location: wanted Caffe Luna but they were booked 1 year and 3 months out when we checked. Other than that we got first pick of every vendor/date. 7/18/2006 11:12:16 PM |

I'm trying to plan a wedding from 6,000 miles away on a $6,000 budget. He wants 200 people. It's not going to happen. Weddings are stupid. Everyone should elope and just let that be that. 7/18/2006 11:51:31 PM |

Hmm..I could spell this out in a number of ways. I have 13 bridesmaids, he has 15 groomsman. The wedding is being held in Charleston SC, The guest list is expected to reach about 1800. The wedding site has to be BUILT...there are a ton of reasons thats not enough time. We're both in the Real Estate field, and I don't even have time to eat most days, let alone plan a wedding. YOUR wedding might work that quickly, ours won't....7/19/2006 11:23:30 AM |

Where in the hell in charleston are you going to hold an 1800 person wedding.
Even the Francis-Marion's largest ballroom wont hold 1800 people. 7/19/2006 11:26:07 AM |

$275,000 is our budget for the actual wedding.
A local architecht is building the wedding site and getting it down there. That will be something that is paid for between his dad's company and that firm, and I have no idea the estimated cost of that. 7/19/2006 11:27:12 AM |

I'm not spending that, his father owns an investment firm, and due to the fact that you "HAVE TO" invite certain people, thats our budget. It won't dent my pockets any because I'm not involved in the spending. 7/19/2006 11:29:40 AM |

Thanks for quoting david. I read what she wrote, but I live down here, and dont even know of a land site in charleston big enough for that.
Since its the biggest wedding ive ever heard of, it made me more curious. 7/19/2006 11:29:57 AM |

We already have our house
^it's being held on the beach. The site is still being negotiated with Charleston, we've gotten approvals ot hold it on the river- using a portion of a hotel's space...but i don't think we're interested in that.
it's going to bring a lot of IP Investors to Charleston, so they've been really accomodating.

well with that budget, I'd reccomend hiring a wedding planner. I mean, you have the money, don't have the time, and you'll most likely need someone who can diffuse the 80 people trying to get people on the guest list and such. 7/19/2006 11:31:18 AM |

We have discussed a wedding planner, and have a "wedding consultant"...one thing I don't want is to be alienated from my own wedding.

Coolness, if you have it on the water somewhere, you should announce in the papers and let people in boats come up and watch from the water. 7/19/2006 11:34:18 AM |
DZAndrea All American 26939 Posts user info edit post |
Understood. You can define the terms of your contract with them as such. (Meaning that you can be totally involved in the parts you can and want to be involved and can let them handle the crazies.) I don't know your relationship with the family, but I'm pretty sure the last thing you want is to be stressing about the things you can't control. But if you have a consultant, they should be able to direct you to the most useful websites and all of that.

That'd be kind of cool, its happening right at sunset...so that should be interesting, and the boats would all look really neat!
Kiawah Island would probably be really cool also, I just don't know about getting a pre-built wedding structure out there.
My dream is to actually have the water underneath us...lets see if this firm can accomplish that

TWW should never be used for advice when dealing with anything that costs nearly $300,000.
Honestly, a wedding of this size is well beyond your capabilities, no matter how much time you have. 7/19/2006 4:57:07 PM |

but did your fiancee volunteer you for this mess?
It's your wedding.
(by the way, be glad you're planning a wedding from here. While not this scale, my aunt will be doing a lot of it from Nairobi, where the dialup internet is spotty and worthless. She has two weeks left here, just started, and then goes back)

Its really kind of a thing were its a matter of buisness relations...it won't look good for his fathers business (which he now has a similar firm)...to not go all out, and invite everyone. Its kind of a PR thing I guess...which sucks b/c its supposed to be the "happiest day of my life"...
But, from what I hear, you don't remember it anyway...so i'm just going to have fun with what i'm being given I guess. 7/19/2006 5:14:35 PM |

Why not make the reception the PR event, and let you have your wedding your way? That'd still be "acceptable"
The only reason I've never considered eloping (I'll have one momzilla, for sure, and the other...well...that's yet to be determined) is because I want/expect my grandfather to officiate. If he croaks before I'm married, we're pissing everyone off, and getting married elsewhere, and throwing them a reception.7/19/2006 5:17:54 PM |
