So my girlfriend works with a kid who has a nice Jetta. Not a vr6- GLI 1.8 i think..... The kid knows nothing about his car- basically won a lawsuit and had about $30,000 to spend so he has people do hella work to it.

anyways, moral of story- this kid says in 6th gear he tops out at 230mph....

wondering if anyone has seen this car around- it's silver with decent bbs racing rims and red calipurs (spelling).... Figured someone on here has seen this car or knows the kid- I guess he's just some preppy dickhead and for having such a "KILLER" car he doesn't have it anywhere online- kids name is Kevin---

discuss

i thought one of the fundamental laws of physics
was that if a jetta trys to exceed 140mph it explodes

well I wouldn't go that far- I have owned 2 jettas (both vr6) and love them. They are both very fast and I have a turbo kit on the newer of the two (it will break 140 pretty smooth)

Still....no Jetta is going over 200mph I don't care how much work is done to it.... Right?
what is the fastest speed anyone has heard of a Jetta with a ton of aftermarket topping out at?

^you've seen a jetta blow or you have seen this kids car?

In order for that car to aerodynamically overcome the resistance caused by a boxy jetta it'd need to have a shit load of HP and Torque. Well over 500 HP

hell no it's not possible. not for anywhere even remotely close to $30,000.

it would be a huge accomplishment to make it run 200 mph for that amount of money, and air resistance increases with the square of velocity...and dollars needed increases with the square of power.

furthermore, even if he had enough money to build a 230 mph Jetta, it would be so unstreetable that you'd have to be a mechanical engineer--and a really good one at that--to keep it running, and you say this dumbass doesn't know anything about his car.

and why would you bother to modify a jetta, anyway? shitty platform to build a fast car out of.

reminds me of the lotus top gear modified to try and break 200 and never succeeded. this urban legend jetta is just that, a myth.

im not an aero engineer or anything, but a jetta would need a hella big wing to keep it together over probably like 150

the kid probably had his car on a lift and for thirty grand someone put a super tall 5th and 6th gear and was like, watch, see the car now does 230mph

thats odd, since i run out of gears at around 150. you must have driven it down a very steep hill.

i agree he doesnt know much about it, but he isnt doing the work either

if i remember right he dyno'd at 300whp and im pretty sure he's had it up over 140, as has another jetta i know of in this thread and neither of them has blown...

^^^^because it's so much easier to extract additional power from a factory turbocharged engine

the real question is why you would buy a Jetta with the intention of doing any significant performance mods at all.

[Edited on July 20, 2006 at 8:35 AM. Reason : 300 whp ain't shit. prob get that with bolt ons.]

some people play with the cars they love, not the ones they can make go the fastest. try to step off your high horse for a second.

yet. 300wph will pop a 1.8t with stock rods... a local guy had this happen yesterday..

[Edited on July 20, 2006 at 10:26 AM. Reason : his car wont do 230. it'll run out of gearing way before that.]

kevin

he said his motor has ~115k miles, 90k chipped, 25k with big turbo. before the new mani, dp, and front mount he was making in the 260-275 whp/wtq range.

[Edited on July 20, 2006 at 10:38 AM. Reason : i think he had 440s too.. and a bunch of other stuff.]

he also said :

Quote :
"Two other 1.8t have thrown rods just this week, one of those on an apr s3 car with the exact same turbo. Seems like rods are like timing belts if you are running any kind of larger turbo, especially if you are tweaking the setup to it full potential. "
