sweet. i'm downloading the demo now.

here's another interesting feature of the game:

This interpreter is the professional data analysis software made by MoTeC and
used by real FIA GT racing teams. GTR 2 outputs data in the same way as the
real cars do.

The MoTeC i2 Interpreter software is developed by MoTeC and its usage in GTR 2
is not supported by MoTeC. Refer to community websites for comprehensive advice
and guidance on its usage."

this game is AWESOME! the entire feel of the game - the look, the music, the dynamics... everything - is phenomenal. it really makes you feel like a professional driver. there is so much attention to detail, it borders on the ridiculous. i mean, it's got everything. i didn't really understand half of it, and skipped right into race weekend. even in the demo, the weekend was a full, real race weekend. it had practice session, qualifying, and a formation lap before the start of the race. your pit crew talks to you through the race, informing you of caution flags and crashes in specific sections of the track. i don't have a racing wheel, so it is hard as shit trying to play with the keyboard. it's still really fun though. i'm definitely getting a steering wheel when i get the retail version. i'm gonna get a better video card too. my shitty geforce 3 does a beautiful job, but it certainly doesn't do the game justice.

go to downloads.com. that's where gamespot points you to for the download anyways. if you're familiar with bittorrents, then you can go that route too.

yeah. that shit was slow as hell for just a 312mb file. iirc, i was only getting ~30kb a second.

another thing about the pit dudes, they tell you were you have damage, how it'll affect your car, and if you need to pit or not.

in the demo, you get to drive either a murchielago or a 575m on the 2003 barcelona circuit. you can drive during anytime of the day or night; you can control how much rain, if any, that you want; and you may also choose how many opponents.

i installed it yesteday. it looks great and runs ok at 1024x769 on my nonhax0r Athlon 1800, 1gig ram, 128mg geforce FX 5200.

however a keyboard (on/off switch) is no way to drive a car. unless maybe its a hackaru

^ that might be overkill

post your best lap times and car setup.

i've been playing with default settings; with full abs, traction, etc. support. these are the best times that i could muster with a keyboard. i can't feather the throttle with my keyboard, so my corner exits are sloppy. i basically have to stab the throttle button a bunch of times, so the ride through the corner isn't always smooth. this also causes a problem with keeping the car in the proper gear through the corner.

the real-life lap record was set by jamie campbell-walter in the #014 lister storm with a time of 1:40:975. the ceo of the development company, henrik roos, has a recorded lap times of 1:36:456 in the ferrari, and 1:36:834 in the lambo. he ran his cars in simulation mode with no abs and traction control. however, i'm guessing he was using soft slicks (default is medium slicks), and messed around with the car's setup (which i didn't do). i've run in the default novice with full abs and traction control help. you can load the ceo's ghosts, and try to follow his lines.

i noticed that the murchielago is much more stable on corner entry. i think this has mostly to do with it's awd (as opposed to the ferrari's rwd). the murch also rides on michelins; whereas the ferrari has pirelli tires. i don't know how much that actually affects the cars, but i don't think it makes a difference in the 5-10 laps that i usually run. the tires probably would play a more important role over a longer duration, or in the 24 hour races. both tires take about 2.5 - 3 laps to get up to temperature. the difference in grip is very noticable. again, i haven't taken enough continous laps to figure out when the tires begin to wear.

i think i could drop my times ~ 2 seconds if i had a wheel and pedal setup; and maybe another 1-1.5 seconds if i switched to soft slicks.

That just sold me on the game. I will be buying this and another wheel. if i had the room, id build a cab for it all.

if anyone wants a full race setup, wheels, pedals, tub seat, enclosed and errything, ill build ya one on the cheap

i got my wheeeeeeeeeeel. logitech driving force pro for PS2. the 900degree one for Grand Turismo. It works for PC, too and its pretty darn nice. 900deg is just like my BMW's loose ass steering

i can't break 143 at Barcelona.. but i guess i've only gone around 3 consequetive times at once.

I'm still tweaking this weel. I've found some config files online for the wheel that have improved it a ton. All the default settings are rediculous. I can now accurate feel the rumble strips, ABS, and understeer through the wheel. Still working on a few more things.

I also installed the track mod above and i think it pretty much sucks

messed around with the settings a bit in the garage, and i upped my best time:

ferrari 575 gtc - 1:41.934

Quote :

with the default settings, you should be able to hit 157+ mph down the front stretch on cold tires. once the tires are warmed, you should be in the 161 mph range. if you switch to the soft slicks and get them up to temperature, you'll see the ferrari reach ~171mph. you've gotta ease into that corner, and gun it out through the apex. the three points of the corner must be hit precisely.

when i messed around with the settings, i sacrificed top speed for corner speed and exit. thefore, i was only touching ~164mph with warmed up soft slicks. however, my times still improved just over 1.5 seconds because i was able to handle the corners better.

you should be over 170 at the braking point for turn 1. go into the garage and change the gear ratios up one notch for all of them. Take just a little rear wing off, too. You pretty much can stand on the brakes and click off downshifts right at the sign after the 100m mark.

my steering wheel is all tweaking and it feels awesome its set at 720deg of rotation and it feels like my real car. its awesome how i can feel when ABS kicks in and the tires skipping w/ understeer. dizam.

my best so far now is 142.5 w/ the lambo. i havent begun tweaking aero yet. is a higher wing number more or less downforce?

it'll slow you down on the straight though. i have my ferrari set at 8 on the wing.

new record: 1:40.766 ferrari
i think that's the fastest i'm going to get with a keyboard. goddamn, i need a wheel.

btw, the track is stunning at dusk.

stock vs. stock, the 575 gtc is faster than the murch. i haven't messed with the lambo's settings, but i imagine it would be slighter slower regardless of settings, and even with the murch's awd. the ferrari has a bit more hp and torque, and i think the aero is better.

nah, it's "i don't have shit else to do" shit.
