curb weight of the vehicle? you need to know your trailer capacity. 7/21/2006 4:53:28 PM |

yes please don'y be stupid with towing. A lot of people' cars/trucks will tow more weight than listed the problem is sometime being able to stop that weight. Also remember that the tow weight listed is usually for a reece receiver mounted under the bumper, the bumple will have a different "tongue weight" listed this is usally very low and means if you put more weight than that on the bumper it might fall off 7/21/2006 5:08:48 PM |

depends on the vehicle. many vehicles out there are rated to tow WELL over their curb weight/gvw 7/21/2006 5:42:45 PM |

^^^ I have a 2002 Tacoma, and I was planning on just using the ball on the bumper.

not a good idea. most step bumpers are only rated for ~3-4k lbs. and 200lbs. toungue weight. i also doubt a taco is rated to tow much if any more than it's own weight. 7/21/2006 6:52:45 PM |

for a second, thought u were gonna pull a full sized mobile house with a pos geo prism. I know there's a vid on the net of some idiot doing that with a pos car. Goes up the hill... then rolls back down backwards after headgasket blew. 7/21/2006 7:40:17 PM |

^^shouldn't be a problem unless you're loading it with alot of really heavy stuff. i doubt even the larger dual axle u hauls weigh any more than 2k. 7/21/2006 7:44:34 PM |

hey, my truck is rated at 7800 lbs with the stock 3.42 gear ratio. now that i have 4.10s i should be able to tow about 14,000, right? 7/21/2006 10:56:10 PM |

^The law limits you to 10k.
The truck, however, is fully capable of pulling about 24k, and then the only limiting factor is your frame/bumper dragging the ground. If you stick a couple of skateboards under there, you can prolly hit 30k. 7/21/2006 11:00:42 PM |

damn. i bet i could rig something. i know, i'll go by northern and pick up two $20 trailer tongue jacks and bolt them to my rear bumper. then i could still have factory ride height. would that make my truck a dually like yours, dan? it would be cool. 7/21/2006 11:03:42 PM |

YET! REminds me, I gotta get up with my friend James. He's got that dually axle under a Ford F350 chassis. He'll let me have it if I help him get his F350 cab/chassis with a 300 six running okay. 7/21/2006 11:41:57 PM |

Yepper. She's a 70. With 3.08 gears no less. I wanna keep the high gears on account of the mileage with a fucking 3 speed auto (and top road speed, which is around 73 mph).

I don't know why y'all are worried about tongue weight. I just hook up and load all the heavy stuff at the back of the trailer so that my truck looks like it has a lift kit on the rear. Handles grrreat. 7/22/2006 10:13:44 AM |
