Has anyone ever had to deal with human resources at UNC? Does anyone know how long it will take to process the background check?

After 3 days of trying to find the correct person to talk to, they finally let me know that they didn't have the background check form, after they have had the paper work for 2 weeks.

thats not just unc hr. hr is always difficult to work with. i could be nice and say there are communications issues, etc. etc. but let me be blunt and say hr is a waste of a good life. remember those ads "this is your brain... this is your brain on drugs" and they show an egg splattered on a pan... well yeah thats what comes to mind when i think of hr...

Except that the original egg in the frying pan commercials featured Rachel Leigh Cook, and H.R. at UNC is not nearly as hot as watching Rachel Leigh Cook thrash about in a white tee shirt. I wish the Federal government would fund more material in the same vein.

HR sucks, I didn't get a check when we switched from monthly to bi-monthly, and my check is always a different amount each month even though i'm on salary.

frogncsu - UNC probably contracts their background process out to another company, many HR groups contract out the administrative work. If you mailed the form to UNC either it wasn't in the envelope when you sent it or it was misplaced at the outsourced firm. Generally background checks take anywhere from three days to a week to conduct. What is the background check for?

Budman - more than likly your issue is with Payroll not HR depending on how your org is set up. Payroll is an administrative task and has been contracted out as well by many companies. Very few HR groups still process payroll. HR generally sets your salary grade when you are hired and then passes it off to payroll to keep up with time sheets etc and to execute payment to you for services rendered. Check with your payroll department about those issues.

A background check can be processed in as quick as two buisness days or as slow as two months.

I personally believe it depends largely on how fast they want the position filled. Where I applied, I went through the entire application process and started in a month because they needed somebody to fill the position. If the position doesn't need need to be filled, the hiring manager will treat it as a lower priority task and not as readily push people to get things done.
