Just starting up an "all-hands" review on what you guys think of our football program as far as coming out this season in the new 12-game ACC season...

Amato says that he's planning to take us to the ACC Championship game, COOL or BULL?

be prepared for a lot of "we suck" responses and shots at chuck.

honestly i don't feel that confident about making it to the ACC Championship this year, i can't help thinking we had a better overall squad last year, especially on D. behind the line on O, we're good to roll, but i'm worried about the lines and coaching on both sides of the ball

you can read my thoughts in any of the other 4 threads about 06-07 NCSU football. The 07 is not necessary though, as we will not be playing on New Years day or thereafter.

How many games does a coach usually have to lose, before he's replaced?

Just curious

the acc as a whole will be down this year, so that might help us out, but an acc title game stretching it.....

watch out for clemson this year.

Been hearing that like the last 5 years. Show me something. They are a lot like us, loads of talent, little results. They also are like us in that they will beat the best teams (FSU, Miami, VT) and lose to the shitty ones like Wake and UNC.

Watch out for Clemson's version of Jay Davis...4 years of Whitehurst now they think the savior is coming in. We all know that replacing a 4 year QB doesn't always go as planned.

Expectations are so high for clemson that if it doesn't go well...I expect Boos in Death Valley.

We'll do a hell of a lot better than most people think.

It's a bit easier when your entire OLine returns (14 of the top 15 offensive linemen from last year's team return this season - only loss was a 2nd stringer last year) and your RBs are more proven than ours were 2 years ago.
Clemson will be good this year.

this does include bowl game though.

Clemson naaa i dont see them doin too much this year, although Miami and FSU will dominate especially with their rookie QB's a year older, stronger and wiser.

my thoughts.

1) our offense can only get better
2) our defensive talent is not where it has been the past two years, but if they give a consistent effort, they will be just as effective. It all depends on if they are going to take games off (like Wake and UNC) or if they decide to "show up".

I think we'll be decent this year. O-line should improve, as should the rest of the offense. WR is a question mark again this year. Defense won't be top-10 like the last two seasons, but I don't think it'll drop off nearly as much as some people think. I feel pretty good about our secondary, and we'll have plenty of size and talent on the D-line still...

I'm thinking we could be pretty good in '07. We have a lot of youth on both sides that may need some experience, and we'll have either a senior leader in Stone or fresh talent in Burke.

well 1 thing is certain...

Amato is rock solid about his thoughts on the team. he even defined last year as the "most successful season" that hes been a part of.

check out his interview on gopack.com @ media day.

i guess its good that he has confidence, sometimes i just seems he lacks common sense.

its amazing how tough state fans are. amato has done wonders for our program. this years team is gonna surprise a lot of people.... the expectations (minus the arrival of amato) remind me of '00.

^^It's not that the fans are tough, but after having a top ten offense one year, then the number one defense the next, it just gets very frustrating knowing how much talent we've had in here the last 10 years

except we won't be able to make a bowl with 6 wins this year, because one of those wins will most likely come from a IAA team

i think its very much possible to finish last in our division this year
if the offense doesnt click and the D doesnt step
we are in a lose lose situation

i tried not to have any expectations this year, but after reading everything, i think i do. here's my take

our schedule allows us to win more. with 4 non-conference games, we have 3 gimme wins, i'm worried about the southern miss game, just a feeling. so thats 3 wins so far. between wake, maryland, uva, and carolina, we will be evenly or closely matched. i say we win 2, or maybe 3 of those games. 5 wins so far (thinking worst case). FSU and BC will be the tougher games, even though they are at home, not sure about these. but for some reason we step it up against FSU, between these 2 games and clemson, 1 more win.

summary:
6 wins, dissappointed
7 wins, eehh, there's always next year (my money is on 7 wins this season)
8 wins, i'll take it
9 wins, impressed

Its easy to figure out this team...just look at the schedule:

Appalachian State - W
Akron - W
@Southern Mississippi - W
Boston College - L
Florida State - L
Wake Forest - W
@Maryland - L
@Virginia - W
Georgia Tech - L
Clemson - L
@North Carolina - W
East Carolina - W

6-6 (3-5) probably good enough for 4th in the Division...we are so good at being 4th, why not.

I'd be happy with 2-10 as long as the wins were UNC and Maryland.

Bullshit. We have ONE gimme win. That is ASU.

Akron is a VERY good team, their QB will play in the NFL, and ECU is a lot better under Skippy Holtz.

Hell just read this: http://www.gozips.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=47122&SPID=4319&DB_OEM_ID=10800&ATCLID=507605

Now tell me how good you feel about the Akron game. MAC champs and are ranked HIGHER than us in 3 out the 4 publications mentioned.

I'd bet it is more like this:

Appalachian State - W
Akron - W
@Southern Mississippi - W
Boston College - L
Florida State - W
Wake Forest - L
@Maryland - L
@Virginia - W
Georgia Tech - L
Clemson - W
@North Carolina - L
East Carolina - W

^ If our season ends up looking like that next year, Chuck won't be the only one receiving heat from the fans and alumni (even with the expanded stadium)...
