It's hockey for pretty boys who are afraid to play without a face mask and who can't skate.

Discuss.

Also, why the fuck do you get the ball back if you completely miss the net and shoot it over the end line? LAME.

I'm watching this MLL game and it's close, then after the final whistle these pussies are throwing punches with their cages on. Fuck them.

ahaha. despite the facemasks, they wear about 1/10th the padding of hockey players. no leg pads, small shoulder & elbow pads. the gloves are comparable in thickness. try taking a 90 mph hard rubber ball in the bare sternum and tell me it's a pretty boy sport. not to mention the goalies only wear throat protectors, gloves and a chest pad (like a catcher's pad in baseball).

as far as possession, after a shot the ball is awarded to the team closest to the ball where it goes out of bounds.

the mll sucks, i think, compared to real lacrosse. they instituted a shot clock and, iirc, a 2-point shot to try to draw more fans.

where do you think hockey came from anyway? the canucks saw the injuns playin lacrosse and 'said that looks fun eh?' and adapted it to play in the fuckin arctic circle.

I don't care where it came from. Anyone who throws a punch while wearing a face mask is a pussy.

Throat protectors are for pussies, too. I had one and tossed it after about a month.

throat protectors are just built in on hockey masks. and even roy wore one that wasn't in his day. you'd be stupid/suicidal not to.

i've seen football players throw punches with facemasks on, and i know i for one won't be calling most of them pussies any time soon (cept for jay davis or adam kiker).

I don't know where you got the idea that throat protectors are built in on hockey masks. The best we've got are medical gel throat collars that prevent Malarchuk incidents. Not wearing one is far from suicidal, and is fairly common, starting with our Conn Smythe winner, Cam Ward.

I wear a lexan dangler just like Roy (on a mask with an extra-short chin). It's not a throat protector as much as it's an audible aid to let you know whether or not you're square. Look at the way someone like Thibault wears his; it's not protecting a damn thing. The way I hang mine, if a puck hits anywhere on the lower half it swivels out of the way and I catch the shot anyway.

The only reason hockey goaltending equipment got big was to cover more net. Lacrosse goalies don't use their entire bodies as active blocking surfaces, so there was never an opportunity to increase the size of the protective surfaces on the arms, body, and legs. The chest protectors that box lacrosse goalies wear are twice the size of hockey chest protectors...it's just a matter of the evolution of the position in each game.

My real point about all comes down to head contact and cheap shots. It is my understanding from watching lacrosse that head contact with the stick is illegal. Head contact with the stick in hockey is also illegal, but that doesn't mean that everyone automatically wears a cage.

I've got no problem with all lacrosse players wearing cages, but if you're wearing a cage (in lacrosse, hockey, or anything else) and you ever throw a punch at someone while wearing it, you're a pussy. End of story. You don't throw a punch at someone when you're wearing something that'll break their hand if they retaliate. That's why guys who wear visors and try to fight in the NHL are the scum of the league.

I still don't understand why lacrosse's out of bounds possession rule is different than every other sport on the planet. If you put it out of bounds, you should forfeit your possession, period.

head contact is illegal but it happens much more often

goalies do try and use every bit of their body to stop shots

and yes, ive never liked that when guys fight in lacrosse, they dont drop the helmets, or gloves sometimes. but such is life.

and the throat protectors in lacrosse sometimes dont do much good, ive taken a shot in the throat several times despite it. even had a guy break it in two.

maybe people dont want to learn the rules cause they'd rather watch football and basketball and baseball in the bumfuck south

i'm sure outside of the bumfuck south the MLL gets higher ratings than the NFL

just because a sport has diehard fans like yourself doesnt mean it has any kind of mass appeal

doesnt mean the sport is bad...its just painfully obvious that most people would rather watch curling

you wear cages in lacrosse bc the primary means of ball travel is through the air, compare this with hockey where the puck is usually on the ground. Of course the puck CAN be in the air, just like the ball CAN be on the ground; however, it's much more common for balls to be flying by your face in lax than it is for a puck in hockey.

If you're gonna hit someone in lax you shouldn't punch the helmet. You should spear your stick into their gut. I did intentionally tomahawk someone across the helmet with my stick once though.

when I played back in the day it was always the football players (linemen or linebackers) playing as defenders and the soccer players playing attack. unfortunately I was a soccer player and got laid the fuck out a few times by the defenders. definetly not a "pretty boy" sport
