are those the little gnat things?
make sure your plant isn't getting too much water, the larvae can only survive if the soil is wet. let the plant dry out a little and the bugs will start to disappear. 7/26/2006 9:16:45 AM |

Call up the entomology dept at NCSU. It's under Ag Sci. I believe you take the soil out, clean the roots with water, replant it. Do not put any water in for the first day or so. Make sure the soil is not wet too.
There's some solution you can make with salt gbut i don't remember what it was. It's been 10 years. 7/26/2006 10:34:52 AM |

you can check the extension service website at ces.ncsu.edu. when we were in the nursery business we occasionally had problems with whiteflies and they could be hard to deal with. 7/26/2006 4:13:57 PM |

^^^a Rudbeckia, an aster
the population has just exploded in the past week, there no crippling of the plant (yet) but the flies are unsightly
^i aint tried that, im hoping a hardcore pesticide is a last resort
i dont think white flies lay their eggs in the soil, those are gnats

Doesn't spraying mild soap/detergent solution on plants usually take care of that?
