Wtf....
there is a viper on ebay with water/meth injection and no forced induction??
i mean i know you could advance the timing a little more but is it really worth it?

i dont imagine it would help much as the intake charge is not as hot as it would be on a forced induction application..
every little bit counts..? (even a 5% gain would be sizable on a viper) 7/26/2006 2:20:34 PM |

i dont know if the cooling factor would equal the energy loss in replacing gasoline with a water/meth mixture in the combustion chamber.
i guess i could look up the release of energy of the two amounts but im going to stick with conjecture.

it could be that big V-10 generates alot heat under the hood, thus affecting intake temperature. principle is the same, but with lesser effects since it is not forced induction. i would just be wary of having an agressive timing while running h20/meth injection as those pumps can fail like any other component. it's a good way to ruin the engine. im not a fan of them and would not put one on even on FI car, at least not on mine. 7/26/2006 7:08:45 PM |

water/meth injection is simply used as a mixture to reduce cylinder temps. there's no "rule" it has to be used with forced induction, thought that's where it's most commonly found. i can see it being useable on a very high strung n/a motor, especially one that struggles with keeping temps reasonable when stock, much less modded (vipers). i would say it's probably being used as a band aid in this case to batte pre detonation so it's not retarded to death, but without knowing the car or its setup that's speculation. who knows, it could be just something someone added for the "wow" factor to people that don't know what the hell it is. 7/26/2006 7:30:18 PM |

it also reduces carbon deposits on your internals, almost steam cleaning the motor every time you drive. 7/26/2006 7:45:07 PM |

^true, but that's not really a positive imo. you're also steam cleaning the cylinder walls, similar to the effects of fuel wash... 7/26/2006 8:02:52 PM |

yeah i guess i don't see an 8 liter 500hp (450 stock but it has a chip and exhaust so i'm giving him a couple) motor as being very high strung at all... i know what its for and i know what it does.... i've always been a crank the boost up person rather than an advance the timing one. and i didn't know what sort of power it would be worth
but C&D and/or Motortrend caught gts(es) on fire doing high speed testing with them. so maybe it helps with that.
