are there any contractors around here qualified to move an entire house? And I don't mean modular homes/trailers ... I mean stick built, on a foundation, move-or-demolish situation

Non modular based stick-frame homes really aren't made to be transported. You can do it, I guess but I would guess you'd have to do it whole, not far, and I would hope it's a classic home or something of historical significance worth keeping. I have no idea how much that would cost, but usually it is designed to transfer loads into the foundation. Removing it from the foundation kinda negates the structural integrity. I'm sure there are companies that do this, and you should really talk to them. But I'm guessing the end result of your query will be to build/buy a new home or tear down the existing structure.

Basically, it says you're looking at about 8-40K just for the move. But you still have to build a new foundation and run utilities. I don't think you're getting out for less than 100K to move the structure.

It is pretty common to move a house. Maybe not and everyday occurance, but still fairly common. Have you never seen a major road project where there are a bunch of houses in the way? Most of em get moved not demolished. Afterall, a house isn't a $5 purchase.

And it's not like they just slap a moble home axle under it and go. A few key reinforcements and support by I-beams allows all the weight to be easily transferred in a safe manner.

And lets not forget that its not like they drive down the road at 60 mph like with a moble home.

how you figure 60K for foundation and utilities?

they also strip the entire house down to the studs. no drywall, doors or windows. you have to refinish the whole thing once it is moved.

not saying it can't be done, just saying you gotta think about the whole picture. you can't just jack it up, throw a frame and axles under it, move it and put it on a foundation and be done.
