This is more for the design people:
1. Where's a good place around here for getting charcoal (like for drawing, not for grilling), and are there any brands you recommend?
2. Where's a good place where I can get nice scrap wood? I mean like walnut, birch, elm, etc. etc.. 7/29/2006 12:00:33 PM |

1. any art supply store, something like Jerry's art-o-rama is going to have a much larger selection than say Michaels. As far as brand goes I have no idea what brands I use, i just know what the packaging looks like. and I use different brands for different stuff. I would recommend trying different brands and see what you like, charcoal is fairly inexpensive.
2. ^ that is capitol city lumber, probably your best option. Prices are decent, and I think they give a student dicount, they used to anyway. You buy it by the board foot so it doesn't matter how much you want.
but I think when you say "scrap" you mean free right? If that's the case the only thing i can think of is the Crafts Center, if you know anyone that works there or who is a member there ask them to check the scrap bin.
I actually have some cherry, bloodwood, and spanish cedar that I have no intentions of using any time soon. What kind of dimensions are you looking for? I don't think I've surfaced the cedar at all, the bloodwood is s2s and the cherry is s4s. 7/29/2006 1:12:28 PM |

More than half an inch, but if it's thicker, don't waste any effort making it thinner. 7/29/2006 5:07:19 PM |
