Depending on how many files it is, you might want to write a program to do it.

Is it just the suffix that you care about? I think the method from about.com will work if that's all you care about.

Suffix only? You don't even need a batch file. Just navigate to the folder in a command window and type:


ren *.jpg *.gif

i have a couple of directories of files that i want to rename, the prefix, not the suffix though
