Yet another Mac question.

OK, so I originally had the trial version of Parallels on my mac...but the trial version is over and my dad sent me the reg key...no I needed to update the software that I had on my computer so it downloaded the latest version of Parallels...so now there is a 'Parallels-Desktop...Mac.dmg' icon on my desktop, as well as a 'Parallels-1848-Mac' icon. I obviously am not well versed in installing anything on macs and I know there's some kind of protocol of how to do it. What are the steps here? I mean it's just an update so I shouldn't have to uninstall the orginal parallel file right?

If it's just like any other Mac application, you just double click on the .dmg file and it will mount as a "drive" that shows up in your Finder. Just drag the application icon into your Applications folder, and it will copy over (install)

hmm, looking at the PDF, you have to run the installer. Double click on the .pkg file and follow the instructions

OK...so apparently I did it, and successfully put in the activation code...but now, what do I put in the trash? both the dmg icon as well as the parallels hardrive looking icon are sitting on my desktop. I forget the basic 'rules' of macs as far as installing and mounting goes etc....

Now I've managed to get it open, but it's asking for the typical 'ctrl alt del' but apparently, it's not because I'm hiting those keys and ain't nothin doin

also, if I want to install windows software my mac, to run on my virtual machine do I just insert the cd into the mac and hope it opens in the virtual machine?

Can't you find OS X equivalents for the Windows software that you use? Seems like a lot of work just to install a couple of Windows apps.

unmount the Parallels "drive" that's installed (you can unmount it by dragging it to the trash, so in short, yes, "throw away" the drive). When it's unmounted, it will dissapear. Then throw away the .dmg file too.

drag them all to the trash, that is, files related that are still on your desktop

OK....now I'm just trying to log in (on the virtual machine) and it's saying 'Ctrl-Alt-Delete' but for fucks sake, it's not working

I don't know if Parallels remaps any of the keys, but you can also try Command (Apple) + Alt + Delete -- for some apps that works instead

Of course I can...but why would I want to spend all the money on programs like photoshop illustrator and quark for macs if I can install them FOR FREE?

How do you install them for "free" without violating the EULA?

well because it's MY program that I bought for me...the fact that I'm using it on a different machine of MINE shouldn't matter....and if it does, well in that case, if I'm gonna be called a thief anyway, I'ma go ahead and dl and install a mac version of the program

yea...I guess we should all be allowed to buy one copy of Windows and install it on all our computers.

well I wasn't talking about Windows, I was talking about apps like photoshop and illustrator. and if it really is 'you can only run it on one computer of yours' then I'm gonna go ahead and pirate software and not give a shit. I play by the rules to a point....but that's just stupid

so let me ask you a question

Are you wilfully going to pirate software to install on your mac?

well we've had a supposed 'truce' but between this and a thread from a few days back, he's treading dangerously close to forcing me to break it
