how long will his streak go?

he's at 33 now, rollins got to 36 at the beginning of the year

cobb, sisler, and rose are the only to hit in 40+ since 1900 -- excluding dimaggio, of course

i say he stops at 35

which would make this thread kind of lame

I have him as a 7th round keeper (I drafted in him in the 7th last year, so I got him there this year) & hope it goes to about 50.

I see it going only 5 or so more. It always seems that once everyone is talking about it, it gets into the players head & then ends shortly.

no offense, but utley's kinda a no-name on the grand scheme of baseball, dimaggio is kind of a big deal

In the end, I think Utley will be one of the better 2B to ever play the game

If he breaks it, it won't mean much now, but may later on

Come on guys, if he breaks it, then its deserved, you can't cheat a record

wtf Crede

i thought your baseball knowledge would be better than this

Utley is the best true 2nd baseman in baseball (soriano doesn't count)

based mostly on the fact that's he still young and that's a lot of pressure to put on young players, such as rollins. he will crack before 40, I'm thinking. probably around 37

I am glad he is on both of my fantasy teams. Dude is easily the most productive 2B in baseball now that Soriano is an OF. Ray Durham is having great year too, but he's old and this season is kind of a fluke.

Obviously I don't expect him to get to 56, I'd be surprised if he got to 40, but acting as if Chase Utley is some shithole player like an Aaron Hill or something is just stupid.

Also the NL East features the best young players at each IF position. Wright and Cabrera at 3B, Reyes at SS, Utley at 2B, and Howard at 1B. I'd like to throw in McCann at C too, but Mauer is just sick good.

don't forget the nationals

zimmerman is a beast and larry broadway is gonna be pretty good too

if the braves young pitchers were anything like they're supposed to be they'd have one of the best young staffs in baseball

the marlins are loaded with young talent too, uggla should win ROY

the mets have milledge, although i'm not sold on him yet

by true 2nd baseman i basically meant not soriano
someone who play's 2nd base everyday

and Chase Utley >>>>>> Aaron hill
Chase Utley had an amazing year last year and an even better year this year
aaron hill has no power and gets few RBI's
batting wise, you cannot even compare the two

yeah chase utley is aaron hill

except for the fact that utley has 19 more homers and is batting 25 points higher than hill with only three more games played

utley 2005: .291/.376/.540, 28 HR
hill 2005: .274/.342/.385, 3 HR

utley 2006: .328/.392/.566, 21 HR
hill 2006: .303/.357/.396, 2 HR

i'd give hill the slight edge defensively, but wtf crede

---

and soriano is still a true second baseman, he just got stuck in the outfield

^^you can't cheat a 56 game hitting streak record though

there's no steriod on earth that can give you better contact and help you hit in 56 straight games

[Edited on August 2, 2006 at 1:20 PM. Reason : soriano was never that great at 2nd and definitely should play OF]

steriods can improve vision

and steroids obviously aid conditioning

so yeah, roids could help a hitting streak

---

soriano's 2004 & 2005 RF @ 2B: 5.11, 4.78
utley's 2004 & 2005 RF @ 2B: 4.46, 4.98

soriano is a true 2B

2B is the easiest fielding position between 2B/3B/SS. Soriano is just an average defender with an excellent bat. His speed makes up for 75% of his defensive flaws.

Picking between Soriano and Utley is tough. Soriano is a more pure power hitter, but Utley is a better hitter for average. Seeing that their defense is a wash, then I'd take Soriano because he is simply more dangerous and has more speed than Utley (although Utley can steal some bases too).

2B is definitely not an easier fielding position than 3B, thats a ridiculous statement.

Think for a minute why 3B is normally reserved for power hitters and 2b is for light hitters.

If 2B was so easy why would people trot Mark Lemke's out there instead of just throwing another power hitter at 2B.

I agree that 3B might have a few tougher plays because of the reaction time needed, but they dont cover half the territory or have half the responsibilities a 2B does. All a 3B does is guard a line, the 2B covers practically the entire right side of the infield. Not to mention turning double plays and covering bases.

His hit in his fifth AB was legit...

Quote :
"Section 10.06 of the Official Baseball Rules, which states that a hit should be scored when a fielder looks or feints at a base before throwing late"

The pitcher looked towards third before throwing late to first. Plus thanks to the horrible Cards bullpen, he got to hit again in the 9th and got another hit just like Moody mentioned.
