last night before i shut my car off it my gauge read right at E, but this morning when i started it up it went all the way up to about 3/4 full and slowly crept back down to E. Any ideas on what may be causing this and will it cause me any problems?

I have a smiliar problem with my 96 Grand Cheerokee.. Some days when I crank it it'll show E, then while I'm driving down the road it'll move up to the correct level.. Usually I know how much gas I have in the tank but some days when Im running late for work or something it freaks me out to see it on E.
