My little sister is getting a cell phone for her bday. We were going to add her to our existing plan with cingular, but I intend to leave them when my contract is up in March. I could add a line to our plan, but that line, regardless of the other lines, would be under a 2yr contract. Not happening.
Really, all that matters is that she be able to make and receive calls, and send and receive text messages.

I know of virgin mobile, cingular's go phone (not at all an option - $$$ for next to nothing). Verizon's montly prepaid plan isn't workable either. Alltel, Suncom, and Tmobile also are poor choices.
What I'm finding is these $1/day for access plans won't be suitable.

these seem to be the best - anyone know of anything better/something I've overlooked?

I used Virgin for a while and really liked it. It was easy to re-up on minutes and the rates were pretty reasonable.

Not Verizon, unless your friends and family already all use it (because you get free I calling)
