what kinda output do you have on your computer, and what kinda input do you have on your receiver? Then head to your local electronics store and pickup a cable with the correct ends. More than likely you are gonna need something like a 1/8" stereo jack -> RCA kinda cable.

I use the Creative Soundblaster MP3+

I bought it for $20 at a Wal Mart. Has Audio in and out jacks and optical in and outs. I tried doing the 1/8" jack to the splitter like shown above, but the audio isnt amplified and I had to crank the volume up pretty high for and there was always interference/ a nasty hum. The bonus of this device is that it has front headphone and microphone jacks so you put it anywhere on your computer. I've been using it has my primary soundcard for 3 years now, no problems. Best $20 I've ever spent.

^ that is a bit excessive unless you want to use optical connections to your stereo.. you must've put the 1/8" splitter in the wrong output or had volume settings configured wrong on the PC..

well $20 isn't that excessive, especially if you have RCA cables (which you can get nice ones at Big Lots for like $5). I believe you can get optical cables there as well for not much money. The best thing about having inputs is you can record stuff

I'm just saying I have tried both, and this is the superior solution.
