Saw a commercial last night on TV for this...sounds like its a pretty cool idea in many ways...basically if your car is out in the hot sun, this device has solar cells and collects the sun's energy and uses it for an exhaust fan...anybody tried one of these things?

$14.99 plus shipping
i'm just wondering if its a piece of shit or if it might be worth it
in the commercial they had two cars sitting in the sun, one with the AutoCool on it
the car without it's temp got up to like 107...the AutoCooled car was at like 75 degrees

hehe.. reminds me of that kid from american inventor..
he invented an air-conditioner you put on the window so your dog can stay in the car when you're in the store... they told him it would never sell

Unless you bought 4 of them and two of them were blowing air INTO your car, you would hardly notice a difference. 8/11/2006 4:25:34 PM |

It seems like it would make your car easier to break into. I watched the commercial for it, and that's how I formed this opinion.
^^It's more like an exhaust, not a fan.

because having your window cracked doesnt make it any easier to break into 8/11/2006 7:24:01 PM |

It's not just cracked, it's like an inch with this cheap extra rubber to go around to make it look normal. All you gotta do it move the rubber and stick something in there and unlock the shit. How hard is that, even with a new vehicle? 8/11/2006 7:33:00 PM |

If I keep locking my keys in my car, I'm gonna get one of these! People with hide-a-keys are just looking to have their car stolen.

Nobody steals new cars by breaking into it and hotwiring.
The car won't start.
People that can actually steal a new car will do so whether you have this or not.
If you sit and think about it, this thing really doesn't work too well. If my car is out in the sun, no amount of exhaust is going to make it significantly cooler. If my car is in the shade, then I'll crack my windows and itll be just as cool. 8/14/2006 3:13:28 PM |

a car isn't gonna be 75° inside unless it is colder than that outside 8/14/2006 3:47:55 PM |

thank you god SandSanta.
Like I said, unless you drive some old piece of shit, cracking your windows doesnt make it any easier to break in. Damn near every lock made is coat hanger proofed now, and even if it weren't you can still jimmy it JUST as easily 8/14/2006 3:52:26 PM |

People often break into cars by getting in through the window, go park a honda civic at wolf creek long enough and find out what happens. By having this in the window it is easier to simply pry the window open, push it down, and help yourself to what you want inside. 8/14/2006 5:38:01 PM |

Haha, I remember that commercial.
They showed it hanging in a window, but I don't remember that rubber thing being in the window.
The window was cracked like an inch and a half. This is just a neat scam to sell crappy products that make lots of money. 8/14/2006 6:36:43 PM |

like said before, it would not be that cool unless the outside temp was that cool or cooler. It may cool it by 10 or 20 degrees on a hot day. But your car would still be hot as balls.8/15/2006 10:18:20 AM |

All that excess heat from your engine could easily power a vapor absorption cycle AC system, without using any electricity. Controlling just how cool it gets would be tricky, though. 8/15/2006 10:28:31 PM |

the theory works though. the vent timer blower control runs for 30 minutes while the car is parked and it DOES make a difference
with the sunroof cracked it works even better to push the hotter air out of the car 8/17/2006 12:05:11 AM |
