So I'm working from my house now, and require a broadband internet connection to connect to my VPN, terminal servers, and other applications on my corporate network. I had all the stuff installed this past Saturday. Starting Tuesday afternoon, I started getting horrible connection problems. Simple pings were experiencing 25% packet loss.

So I have enough and call and ask them to do something about it this morning. After a few remote diagnostics, miraculously the very knowledgable phone support lady said "we'll send a technician out to check it out. When are you available?" I answer that I'm here all the time since I work here now, and that anytime during the week works for me. She says "Ok, someone will be there within 15 minutes."

15 Minutes? Holy shit. Time Warner would make you wait two weeks to get a tech to your door.

The dude shows up and immediately starts tiding up the cables. Unplugs everything, and replugs it back in, runs diagnostics and line tests. He discovers that the original electricians that wired the house used sub-standard fittings on the in-wall boxes. He said "antenna grade bullshit". He replaced all of them in the house no questions asked. He then had me reconnect to the net and run some speed tests. I was still only getting 300k down when I should be getting 6mb. So he calls up his home office and has them reflash my modem and voila, the problem was fixed. So far I've had no disconnections and there is a noticeable speed difference. This all happened within 30 minutes of me placing my call.

Now to contrast, when I was in Cary with Time Warner, I had a horrible time trying to get them to come out and fix a disconnection problem I was having last summer. They'd never send a technician out, always blaming it on "heavy network traffic" or "improperly configured firewall settings." Fuck you Time Warner, I'm so glad to be rid of your bullshit.

Hope you enjoyed this story.

You neglected to mention which carrier you're currently using.

The company is Adelphia but they're currently getting taken over by Comcast. The guy that came to my place had an Adelphia shirt on, but gave me a Comcast business card. He said give him a call anytime I had a problem.

comcast sucks too, at least in atlanta. when we signed up for comcast cable internet, they said the technician would be come out in 12 days to install our internet (for a $75 fee). instead of sending the equipment with the technician, they fedex'd it to me. so i hooked it up and it worked great. 12 days came and passed, and eventually showed up about 3 weeks later. I told him i already hooked it up and was fine, and sent him home.

I got the $75 charge anyways I fought it, but never was able to get them to drop the charge

Again, as in every TWC thread posted here at TWW let me be the first to remind you that TWC outsources its on the road crew...so your complaints lie with both TWC and whatever crappy local Technican company is scamming TWC making TWC think they know how to fix cable/interweb problems

Also, I had Adelphia when I lived outside of Lexington KY and I gotta admit Adelphia had their own inhouse crew...the tech guy was cool and let me have a bunch of cable wire/extra splitters so I could do some extra rewiring in my basement...
